Art galleries in Nanaimo are sustained by a cultured public. We seem to support (though seldom collectively) any endeavor that strives for excellence, whatever form it takes. Many of the best local painting styles draw on the unique ecosystems and history of the west coast, and sculpture varies from classical human forms to post-modernist jumbles of farm equipment and animal skeletons.
