A lot of people like to bring their barbecue to the park when their family meets to play and feast. There are certainly some beautiful parks to have a BBQ in Nanaimo.
However, there are rules which must be observed:
Some of the parks have pits built-in, like Newcastle Island and Bowen Park. As for other parks, or for information about reserving BBQ spaces, you will have to contact Nanaimo's Parks & Rec department.
Note that Bowen Park has two picnic shelters, one at the lower eastern end (near the volleyball courts) and one near the seniors' center. Each shelter has a big oil drum stove in it. Call Parks and Rec for more info: 250-756-5200
We would like to have more information, especially about each park's facilities and rules. Please contact us if you have information to provide so that more people can enjoy a family barbecue in the park in Nanaimo.
