Nanaimo Dog Off-Leash Parks
Authored by vanislandrev 1 month agoDog Off-Leash Parks, Nanaimo - Vancouver Island
Nanaimo has various off-leash parks through-out the city, and I know
we had a few trial off-leash parks happening also, but I haven't heard
what is going on with those. Dog lovers will benefit greatly from this list.

An off-leash park is a designated location where dogs and their owners can run free and play without a leash. There are a few contained sites.
Beban Park (Off Labieux Rd) - Open year round and 24/7, this facility is completely fenced in. There are separate small dog and large dog areas.
Cable Bay (down Nicola Rd, in Cedar) - This is a decent 2 km hike to the end and back, with a fabulous view of the ocean at the end. This is a forested area.
Westwood Lake - Located on the…

Nanaimo Costco.
Authored by vanislandrev 1 year agoI am officially an unhappy customer. Now as a single person I do not feel the need to frequent Costco, since I do not have a large family to feed (the main purpose of Costco, IMHO). I go there MAYBE once a month. So for me to spend $50 on a membership seems pointless. It wouldn't be worth it for me. I understand Costco has some decent pricing (but let's be realistic, no one TRULY saves money at Costco - in fact I seem to spend far more than I wanted to!) and they try to provide wholesale prices, but I fail to see the purpose of PAYING for a membership just to SPEND money somewhere. I'll stick to the story here.
I went to Costco with a member and at the till was asked whether I have a membership to which I replied "no". I was asked whether I wanted a…
Nanaimo's Future.
Authored by vanislandrev 3 years agoThe future is looking good in Nanaimo. With a new mayor and a few new council members, Nanaimo can have a somewhat fresh start in a world where there is a bit of instability. Future plans to build a cruise ship dock downtown Nanaimo could prove successful in bringing in potentially 9 million in economic revenue for mainly the downtown. I think we need to focus on cleaning up and presenting our city for all it's potential. As housing markets slow, we will see housing prices come back down to reality and people who have invested their money wisely will be able to capitalize on such a market. Looking at the markets recently I've already noticed drops in prices and houses staying on the markets longer they were this time last year.
John Ruttan recently…

So on Oct. 14th we are all heading to the polls. When I say ALL, I mean we all SHOULD. It allows us to have involvement in politics (that dictate our lives whether we like it or not). We have dismal turnout for young voters (18-29). Which is unfortunate, because we are the future. Being apathetic isn't going to get us the world we all want. Every vote counts, every vote matters. I personally don't want a Conservative majority in Canada. Regardless everyone should check out the major candidates and make it to the polls! Happy voting !

Authored by vanislandrev 3 years agoUpon going to a 7:30 show the other night at the Galaxy Cinemas I was once again shocked at people bringing small children and infants into late, in appropriate movies. Pineapple Express is not for children - The movie is saturated in swearing, drug usage and sexuality. I thought it was hilarious, but I don't want to hear a child crying in the middle of an adult oriented movie.
Sadly enough this isn't the first time this has happened, it's happened at least 5 times now and always at adult movies where you don't expect to hear a child crying. Seeing a scary movie on a screen that big has to be terrifying for a young child or baby. Scooby Doo was terrifying enough for me on the small screen - imagine a young child watching Stop Loss (war movie) while his…

Vancouver Island Reviews!
Authored by vanislandrev 3 years agoBorn and raised in Nanaimo B.C. I've just enrolled in the iPro program at VIU and would like an opportunity to let fellow Nanaimoites know about my current project that is just on the go.

It's just in the beginning stages and will be coming together a bit better over the next few months. I begin my web design program in September where I will utilize my skills to deliver some helpful information to not only Vancouver Islanders but anyone in the world that is inquiring about our lovely little island.
Please check it out! Thanks!
