Nanaimo's Future.

The future is looking good in Nanaimo. With a new mayor and a few new council members, Nanaimo can have a somewhat fresh start in a world where there is a bit of instability. Future plans to build a cruise ship dock downtown Nanaimo could prove successful in bringing in potentially 9 million in economic revenue for mainly the downtown. I think we need to focus on cleaning up and presenting our city for all it's potential. As housing markets slow, we will see housing prices come back down to reality and people who have invested their money wisely will be able to capitalize on such a market. Looking at the markets recently I've already noticed drops in prices and houses staying on the markets longer they were this time last year.

John Ruttan recently announced he will join up with various other island mayors to kick in some cash to improve the island railways, I think this is a great investment that will prove beneficial in the future.

There is also the Nanaimo Airport expansion that will occur. I think this is another great thing to happen to Central VancouverIsland. We are losing too much air service to Comox, Victoria and Vancouver - with an approximate 2% annual growth of passengers between 2000-2006 it's a much needed funding. This would be business that would stay within the community and provide jobs. Any funding to transportation is smart and welcome, this brings people in - encourages people to stay and reflects on a positive economy. As our population grows we want to provide our city with good paying, plentiful jobs to keep people on this lovely island.
