Nanaimo Information says:
One of the best ways to experience Nanaimo is to take the little ferry across the harbour (10 min ride) to the Dinghy Dock, a pub/restaurant that floats by the shore of Protection Island.
The ride is especially great on warm days, when you can feel the ocean air on your face as the little boat creeps past the big tugboats and fishing vessels and out into the harbour. You might see seals and dragonboats, and your skipper may curse like a real sea captain when a noisy ol' float plane almost lands on top of the boat.
The restaurant itself is actually a pub — but a family area has been added to accommodate people who couldn't ditch the kids in town.
The Dinghy Dock experience is all about the journey, and the outdoor seating on the water, with remarkable views of Nanaimo and the hills/islands surrounding it.
