As you drive north on the Island Highway between Country Club Mall and Rutherford Mall, you'll notice a little lake on the left. It's Diver Lake - a strange name for a lake that nobody seems keen on slipping into. It's weedy and close to the highway, but it does have a pretty wooden walkway and a playground, and there is an area with jumps for bikes.
The old Wellington coal mines' number 5 shaft was just south of the lake, and the old Wellington Hotel was just to the west. (Maybe the lake was named for all the people diving for old bottles in the last few decades? We'd be curious to find out.)
