The Dover Bay area is as far north as you can get in Nanaimo without being in Lantzville. Dover Bay Road heads east from the Woodgrove Mall area, staying high above the ocean and passing through upper-middle class and upscale residential neighbourhoods.

The ocean views in this area are phenomenal, with a huge expanse of water illuminated below, and with Texada Island and the coastal mountains rising beyond.

There is every kind of retail opportunity in the many shopping malls nearby, including Woodgrove Mall, the largest shopping centre on the island. Most Dover Bay properties are a five minute drive from the shopping centers.

Homes in the Dover Bay area tend to be more "cookie-cutter" than in the older neighbourhoods around Nanaimo, including nearby Hammond Bay / Rutherford. However, many of the home designs are amazing and efficient, with teh aforementioned spectacular ocean views, and the neighbourhoods couldn't be farther from Nanaimo's poverty issues.
