Don't we have it all, folks? Here's a forum where Mid-Island outdoorspeople can network.

Would anyone be interested in a treasure hunt?
A small group of people would be good but the more the merrier
Does anyone know anything about Green Lake? Swimming, access, hiking, biking, anything would be helpful. I have lived in uppper Lantzville for 5 years near Aspengrove school and have yet to explore.
HOWDY FOLKS :D
I'm curious if a person can still find some nice sized chunks (baseball sized or larger) of coal laying around in Nanaimo?
And where would that be located?
Thanks Alot !!
Spring is coming and I'm looking for others to form an ongoing group for bicycle cruises. Although I mainly mountain bike, I also build kustom cruiser bicycles and would like to join up with any others (beach cruiser, recumbent, mtb, bmx, young, old, male, female, etc) for relaxed rides in and...
I know it is still winter, but in a few weeks it will be prime pussy willow pruning time. Just wondering if anyone has seen any yet, or if anyone knows any sure fire local place to find and snip them myself when the time is right.
They brighten up any bedside bouquet =)
This is probably a stupid question. Sorry. But I grew up in Alberta and the growing season is quite different there. I want to start some tomatoes and peppers inside and grow them on my patio this year. I'm thinking I should start the seeds soonish since it gets warm so much earlier here. They are...
A whole bunch of us scuba divers will be getting together on New Year's Day at Neck Point park for a dive or two. We'll be there around 11 am, for one or two dives, hot chocolate and hot dogs. If anyone would like to join in, contact us at Sink or Swim Scuba 250-758-7946 or email@example.com
Would anyone be able and kind enough to post a map or google earth view of the location of Wolf Mountain? Thanks in advance.
There was a great moment this summer, camping at the river.
We had a fire going, and a guy swam across the river and appeared in our firelight all wet and asking for a light to bring back to his camp where his girlfriend was waiting -- they had no source of fire. None of our party of ten or so...
I went for a walk along the powerlines from Mount Benson rd. to Morrel Wildlife Sanctuary and I decided to head into the Old Stumpy trail(across the powerlines from the main road through Morrel)for a white chantrell looksee.
I haven't been on Old Stumpy for a few years so I was...
People can no longer use dirt bikes, ATVs on popular logging roads and trails in Nanaimo Lake Road area
Much of the eastern Island, including most of the Nanaimo Lakes area, is now off-limits to dirt bikers and other off-road enthusiasts.
Forestry giant Timberwest banned unlicensed off-road...
The missus and I are thinking about trying out canoeing(sp?) for recreation and a little exercise, but we're wary of purchasing a canoe outright then finding out we're not well suited for it...does anyone know of any canoe rentals in the central Island area where we could try...
is somebody with a boat out there and plan to go fishing next week?
I was wondering if you could take me and my brother in law with you.
We would, of course, share all expenses.
I would be more that happy if somebody gets back to me.
Thanks to everyone,
I am looking to hike mt benson and I just have a couple of questions if anyone knows the answer.
I think I found the path from westwood. It was on the west side of the lake, and i crossed the powerlines that were at the entrance to the dog park and there was a sign that said...
Yes, the snow is gone (at least for now) and we are back! This year I've joined up with the people from the Greater Nanaimo Cycling Coalition to promote group rides (and cycling in general). More promoters = better group rides for all. The GNCC has been around for about 11 years, providing...
Ammonite Falls Directions
For those that are hiking with small children or are looking for a less strenuous route to the falls :
Follow the posted directions from Jameson Road. Once you enter the managed forest, walk a couple hundred yards to the fork in the road. As posted, take the right...
I saw a thread somewhere here that recommended the railway tracks for blackberry picking.
DO NOT pick your berries near the tracks!!!
They grow in soil that has creosote and other chemicals leached into it and also herbicides have been sprayed along much of the tracks.
I am looking for a nice 4 hour hike that might take us to a lake or river where we could camp and swim for a night.
We are new to Nanaimo -- this is a great forum!
Hello, I'm looking for some feedback regarding where to camp this summer. I am debating between Englishman River Provincial park or Little Qualicum. I have heard good things about both locations, so I'm torn....suggestions anyone???
