Thread: Mountain Biking in Nanaimo?

  1. #1

    Default Mountain Biking in Nanaimo?

I am aware of the area around the Abyss Loop, and I know that there is biking around Ammonite falls out along Jinglepot. What other biking areas are around? I know you can do Benson, but I don't know where the trails start, or where you should park.

I would also like to know if it is possible to get trail maps for the Nanaimo area. I just bought a new Kona Blast (2005) and went biking at "The Dump" in Victoria. (I had a really good wipeout - cracked my new helmet...)

However, now that I have a new bike, I would really like to get to riding in Nanaimo, and I don't know who to go biking with, or where to get biking info.

Who bikes out there, and would be willing to take a n00b on the trails around here?

    lol, George....

You and Ryan could exchange tips regarding whitewater/mountain biking....
He rides a Kona Stinky and knows all the trails on the back of his hand!

I know that there is the doumont trail off of Doumont Rd..... and spittin' chicklets and BIG drop trails, but he knows everything else about them!

    A question......

Ry says that he would be happy to show ya some trails..............

Thanks Persephone! I would like to do X-Country and downhill. I cant huck big drops as the Kona Blast is a hardtail, that and a drop is what caused my wipeout on Sunday. I need more practice on blue runs before I tackle black runs....

So, pretty much anything other than the big air.

I actually LIKE going up hills. I can go up them with my new bike, and I could not with my Marushi Aggressor which I used to ride.

But I would be happy to trade Mountain Biking for Kayaking.

For everyone else, I found the following maps of trails in Nanaimo:
    http://www.nanaimomountainbikeclub.com/maps.htm

I cruised up Banshee Blvd on Tuesday, but I did not feel like running "Face of Death" or "Crazy Horse"... (you can see these routes on the Doumont.pdf)
