Has anyone heard anything about Drift? I don't know a thing about it.
It's downtown on the hill next to Gina's. Looks like it might be in the old Curves building.
Anyway, it says "Drift" "Food and Drink" on the side of the freshly painted building.
I don't think that it is opened yet, but was wondering if anyone had any inside info on what we can hope to expect.

Alrighty well I did a little digging (some help you guys were hehe j/k)

Sounds like Drift is going to be serving International foods built on a base of Westcoast/Local products.
Expect to open within the next month...

I'll be checking it out for sure

I went to Drift the other night. It was fabulously decorated, the service was great, and we enjoyed the view (despite the fact it overlooks the Old Island Highway, it was nice). I'm not so sure about the food. For those of you who complained about Tania's and their prices to proportions ratio, I wouldn't recommend it.

I loved the atmosphere, however, and I'd like to see it succeed (albeit with a little improvement in the cooking -- my $14 "cobb" salad was mostly crunchy lettuce, egg, and some meagre slices of bacon - I think the entire thing probably weighed less than 200 grams ).

I too have been to Drift. It's a funky looking restaurant on the inside, sort of a industrial-esk ambiance. Service was really good, as was the food. I started with the Beef Shortrib Spring Rolls ($10.95, I think) with a kim-chi Korean BBQ sauce, that was awesome, when you first taste the sauce you think its going to be spicy, but it's not. I had the housemade gnocchi with chicken, whole cloves of roasted garlic and a cassia-tomato sauce ($16), and my wife had the Cobb Salad. I agree that it was a little skimpy on the goodies with it, 2 slices of bacon, 1/2 a chicken breast, 1 sliced egg, and 2 oven roasted tomatos.($14). One of the servers ( I think he is a co-owner) told us that the cuisine is "Westcoast", but I sort of beg to differ. Once I had read the menu, I noticed that there was Asian and East Indian influenced dishes on the menu also. I thought that it would be a "westcoast cuisine with asian infusion", but then again east indian isn't "asian", so I now have come to a new conclusion, "westcoast fusion cuisine!!). I would highly recommened it to people that are looking for a nice dinner.

$7.5 a bevy for those bad boys (thought that was a little pricey)

We enjoyed a dinner there this past weekend with a group of about 10 and it was packed - The decor and menu have a trendy 'Vancouver/ West Coast' flare and I found the full sized dinner to be enough food for me (gnocchi mmmmm) but the appies were a bit on the small size (12 for 4 scalllops)
There was only one chef on duty and one bartender, so in a packed place it took us a very very long time to get our food and sadly our drinks as well.

7.50$ a martini isn't that pricey in comparison to other places it's right on par but having to wait 20 minutes or longer for it and still have to pay that felt like a kick in the teeth.

This place has real potential and I hope to see more of Nanimo headed in this direction...we aren't just a blue collar town anymore and elegant fine dining is a treat!

it makes sense, westcoast is slowly being taken over by asians and indians

Well my wife and I went there last night for desert and were really impressed. So much so that we are going back tonight for dinner. The desert was awesome and the coffee was great. Personally i love the decor. Ill likely chime back in after our dinner experience with reviews.
