Not sure what else I can contribute, but you certainly made me recall some very fond memories - thanks!
What about Les Jr. was he involved in the club activities during the 1990's. And, why isn't Les or Stephen involved.
On some lists, the name of Les is still shown as a contact person, but on others it is Barry.
So what happened in the last year or so?

Also, somebody that used to be involved with
the club from the mid Eighties to the early Nineties
indicated Monty Brown was involved? So what happened to the Preston family and their
    involvement?

Did you participate in any out of town tournaments
or did only a few of the folks travel to exotic locations
    like Campbell River?

Aside from the boxers and coaches, at one time
their were supporters that helped with fundraising
so do any key persons from the Nineties stand out

    Bamb00,
This was the first message on the thread!

Unless others comment, it will also be the last
thus the thread has come full circle.

However, a few more rounds are welcome
But folks involved in the sport today are likely busy
with the real deal rather than flashbacks of the past.

But from the old Nelson classic

    Or Phil Ochs:
"It all fades so quickly like a sunny Summer's day"

I really hope someone posts in this thread, Zelley10 - you certainly deserve to find somebody who's as interested (or nostalgic) about the history of Nanaimo boxing as you are.
Thanks again for contributing so much quality content, and opening the doors for more dialogue. So much that would have been lost is now preserved for future generations of historians, students, coaches, and boxers.

Default It's A "Question of Balance"

Hoping that, persons connected with the sport now on Vancouver Island will
contribute. I know some past or present members have visited as Guests,
but if they want to take their sport to a new level of Public Awareness,
Growth & Acceptance, they need to disclose their current status and
keep others such as sports fans & followers in the picture.

Also, they could highlight the recent few years of activity.
They could even have some education about the basics
such as why the first things to learn are proper stance and footwork.

I believe it was in response to some point that you made on another
thread. Funny thing, when we enter a site we never know where we will
    appear. So why this thread?

You were asking about age on the NDSS thread - the connection to this thread provides a vivid response to your question with pictures and dates
concerning the age of a member.

    very fond memories - thanks!
Recently on a NDSS site, I was reviewing Grads for 1984, they had
their 20 th. reunion last year while the Grads of 1985 recently completed theirs.
Of interest two of the Nanaimo Boxing Club members were listed
including Steve. Where did all the years go?

Of interest to some, from an old scrapbook that I obtained from
Dorothy Runacres, it is packed with some interesting pieces
including a 1970's school picture of Stephen

Having started the club, it was nice to be able to receive the stuff
in those years after I left in 1974 to focus on Victoria.

It was also, good to see so many references to
to persons and organizations that helped the club with donations and
fundraising efforts. I guess it would be interesting to have a complete
tally of all the funds raised in the years 1975 to 2004, who helped
raise the funds, and the benefits realized

For those no longer involved, I wonder what their thoughts are!

I haven't had a chance to follow-up on Nanaimo Boxing activity in recent months, so would welcome any news or views from the locals.

You have to join a boxing club.

Learn from the ground-up stance & balance, then footwork.
