    Default Free Virus Protection

I've been using AVG but it's run out. The new "free" version doesn't include spyware or identity theft protection. I'm looking for suggestions re: what other free all-inclusive computer protection that people are using, what's good, what's not......

    Thanks in advance.

I think your best bet would be to pay for one... Kaspersky perhaps. It seems to be working for us here at the office.

There is ClamWin Free Anti Virus. And for everything but anti virus there is Advanced WindowsCare v2 (includes registration key cleanup, personal information cleaning, spyware detection etc). Have been trying it for about a week and seems nice and easy. (and fast).
Also, both Telus and Shaw provide free Antivirus, Firewall and Anti Spyware.

I use Kaspersky at home myself. It was very much worth the 40 bucks i paid for it.

Short of shelling out money for one, I would stick with the avg or go with avant. however, as you mentioned they only provide antivirus.
I usually run adaware once a week and trendmicro once a week, and I am using avg.
I've had no problems. I found all the other antivirus anti everything programs leave a huge memory footprint, avg is nice and small.

If you have a major ISP like Telus or Shaw, they have their own branded versions of well known AV software.
For example, Shaw has a branded version of 'F-Secure' Antivirus & Firewall that works quite well.
    It's free for Shaw customers.
Not sure what Telus has, but they must have something too.

So. This topic is super timely. Telus upgraded something and now would like to charge me for anti virus (4$ per month) and shows me what spyware is on my computer but would also like to charge me ($4 per month) to remove it. What a gyp. They left me with firewall but the "package" of spy ware anti virus and other things is so huge it doesn't seem worth it.
Off to try AVG... or to purchase something that will take over my computer.

    Hello,
My solution is using "Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic" (Anti-Virus soft) + "Spybot Search & Destroy" (best Anty-Spywaresoft IMO). Both are free.

Spybot S&D is a great way to rid your comp of spyware, however it does not have a real time protection aspect. The inherent microsoft app (windows defender) seems to protect nicely against port attacks but thats about it. If you are into spending a bit of money Counterspy offers great real time protection
