Thread: Stories: How far back?

  1. #1

    Default Stories: How far back?

There are many stories, but how far back should we go? For instance, I could tell a story about the storm in 1897 when young Herbert Zelley was killed
when a tree fell on the house. I believe the place
is in the location of the "Moby Dick Motel".

In the Fantasy or Fiction section of the story, one
could ask does the spirit of young Herbert visit??!!

Also, where do we post these stories or tidbits from the past?

ACK! Zelley10! If you submitted stories like that, you have them wherever you want! We could have a place on our Nanaimo Information site - there could be a link on the main page that goes to a section for stories and other such luscious things. Let me know if you want to volunteer material - and if you're lazy, I'm willing to edit your stuff - it'd be so awesome to have stuff like that for younger residents like myself who only see the old city in little pieces.

In the next little while, I will dig up a story I did for the Nanaimo times in 1990.
it was about a marine tragedy in 1900 when John Cordell, Richard Kenyon
and William Zelley drowned when the sailing vessel capsized.

Please review the "Echoes of the Storm" in the Boating section.
I tried to blend my own childhood experiences in Brechin with
Herbert"s last farewell, and a small slice of the 1900 Marine
    Tragedy story.

I can't remember the exact year, but as a young kid, I got to go out in a small inboard boat for fishing by the Five Fingers. I don't remember
how many fish the adults caught, but I do remember them talking about
the sinking of the sailing vessel a long time ago.

Great contribution Zelley keep them coming - I will put up a section on the main site as soon as we get some free coding time, to list articles posted by dedicated members - We really appreciate the content you are contributing, I for one find it fascinating.

So how are we doing with the stories? I like your comment:
"..only see the old city in little pieces".

I guess our Nanaimo history is like a giant jigsaw puzzle,
with different folks holding a piece of the action.

Sadly, we can never get a complete story.
But, through the eyes of yesterday's child, we get a feeling, an awareness, and an appreciation for those that laid the foundation, those that toiled away to keep the community machine operating, the many volunteers in so many organizations, and the everday citizen that participates in various degrees
to keep the "home fires burning".

Wow Zelley, that sounds interesting. (Can we mention it as a possibility in the haunted places thread?)
Or, I guess that was your great-great-uncle?
