I remember when the A&W first opened. It caused quite a scandal as the 'youth' used to drive their cars round and round through the parking lot, much to the disgust of people like my parents. Teenburgers, yum!

    Default Those Crazy Teens!

I'm sure my sisters were drivin' through the A&W parking lot, I think they were a little on the wild side.

How about the old nightclubs....Tivoli's which I think became Mr. B.'s, then Blu's...Shuffles, Magnetics, Sgt. O'Flaherty's and my favourite, Wichita North. Now I know the names of a few of the clubs but I have no ideas what's where....I'm more of a pub person. Speaking of pubs, the Black Bear has has a few names in her day...Quigley's, the Harp and Shamrock or it may have been Quigley's Harp and Shamrock....can't remember if there was another name in there as well....and how about when Piper's Pub (in it's original location) had the paper money stapled all over the walls. I remember when I was at the Harp once and these guys from a rugby team came in..next thing I knew they went out into the field area beside the pub and had a long jump contest in their ginch!

Well, I'm off to get my morning fill of coffee!

Do you remember the two big German Shephards that used to live @ the Harp? I loved going in there and seeing them laying on the floor.

Now that I don't remember....and I'm a total dog lover so I definitely wouldn't forget seeing them, I'd have loved that.

Sorry it has taken SOOO long to reply, but yes Brian is my step-dad, I think he used to manage another one (dont remember the name of it) down on Nicol St. He and his family were headed out of town on vacation and drove by it and it was getting robbed, so he hoped out and went in, and ended up getting stabbed, not too bad.

    Default 70s

I moved to Nanaimo in 73(I was 3)The bus station was at Cameron Island(both local and greyhound)as well the float planes. Harbour Park Mall had Governers (great frosties)and sears(small restaurant top floor).Eatons was on its own(no mall attached)with parking on the roof.Kellys stereo mart started the boxing day shopping craze(that is what seemed to me).My sister and I went to every saturday matinee at Fiesta for years,it didn't matter what was playing(saw a knife fight in line once!).I saw the fireball in the sky during the oiltanker fire in1977,black smoke pume all day,and lots of ambulances speeding past Dufferin. As any one can tell I have many Nanaimo storys

And John Gorosh had his mountain of scrap cars piled up across the hiway!
Man what I'd give to have some of those cars now!
My dad and I used to eat at that coffee shop you mentioned. And yeah, I remember John Gorosh's scrap pile. He had loads of Model-A and other antique vehicles piled in there and stacked about 5 cars high. He didn't mind me going in there to look around when I was a kid. The place had a strange smell of oxidizing metals. I'll never forget that. I still go there once in a while if I need a piece of scrap steel to do something with. But mostly, it's a storage area now for his cranes and steel container storage.

I remember all the mentioned places. Do any of you remember the IXL little diner on Terminal Avenue? It was close to where Mrs. Riches is now. I went there a few times after Friday night skating. Another memory is passing Tannock's junk yard to get there. Those barking guard dogs! (Where Budget Rent a Car is now)
