Thread: Geocaching

    Default Geocaching

Wow, I was just reading the witchcraft thread and am just learning about geocaching now. Are there any members here that participate in this?? Are there many caches around Nanaimo?? Please share your stories.

This looks like a ton of fun. I really need to get me a GPS though. Tell me more about your finds around Nanaimo. This looks like way more fun than going for walk or hike somewhere.

    Thanks, CanadianZ

TONS of geocaches in Nanaimo, up around westwood, right in town, Bowen Park, Newcastle Island, Protection Island... tons and tons and tons... Last one I went for was at a spot we had been to numerous times overlooking Westwood Lake - never knew there was a cache RIGHT THERE.

Register for an account on geocaching.com and do a search for caches around a certain postal code (your house or whatever) You'll find a LOT of caches to do!

I'm more interested in the locations the caches bring you to than the cache itself - I don't usually trade any items inside, just log the visit in the book and enjoy the hike!

If you check out the pawn shops, there are some really good deals to be had on GPS (s)....

There are tons of caches on the Island. So much fun....

I've only recently gotten into geocaching. It is strangely fun and a great way to find new trails and locations. My friends give me odd looks when I tell them I'm going geocaching after work though, so I often just say I'm going for a hike.

My friends and I had a ball doing the Fashion Sense cache up in Nanoose! It requires you to bring along a male companion and have them model some lovely ladies fashions that are enclosed in the cache. Some of the pictures on the site are pretty hilarious, people really get into this one. I would definitely recommend it to other cachers. We had a lot of fun (of course I was only taking the pictures and not doing the modeling).

    Beware of trains.

After a brief chat with Persephone about geocaching, I went to geocaching.com, read up on the subject and finally today I went out looking for my first cache. It was fairly easy to find and now I am set for #2 and beyond.

We are enjoying it so much (found #4 and #5 today) we bought another GPS unit. It is a Magellan eXplorist 500LE (full color) and is going to be ON SALE at London Drugs starting Tuesday for only $99.99. It does not come with any maps other then a simple basic basemap. It comes with Magellan Geocache Manager for downloading WEB coordinates quick and easy.

Just signed up on www.geocaching.com and had a look for some of the caches near my place and there are about 10 within 1 km. I think this could be a way to have some fun and get some exercise.
