Default Views of Nanaimo - Photos

Nanaimo can be pretty ugly sometimes at ground level, but it's almost always beautiful from above. I'm sure there are hikers and pilots and Google-Earth fanatics with photos for this thread.

Starting things off - this is Departure Bay (etc) seen from atop Roberts Roost.

This is South Nanaimo and Duke Point and Gabriola Island from the same place (actually about twenty meters away). I like how the estuary looks:

Too bad about all the log booms, though, if what I've heard is true: that those booms poison the muddy bottom in the estuary and prevent anything living there.

And here's looking towards the north - it's Westwood Ridge with the Winchelsea Islands, Lasqueti, Texada, etc in the background.

    Default View From the Top

Panoramic view from the old forestry tower site on the top of Mt. Benson taken June 7, 2008. We (my nephew & I) hiked up from Westwood Lake trail. It took about 3 3/4 hrs but we stopped a number of times to take photos and catch our breath. The trail is in pretty good shape except for near the very top. There has been a lot of windfalls and snow damage to the trees just in the last 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the top.. Everyone who is into hiking should plan to hike it at least once. Clik on the photo to enlarge and zoom in...

There were some good dark clouds alternating with sunny patches yesterday. I like this view of Nanaimo, from just over that bridge by Brownie Bay.
