WELL! Since this seems like such a hot topic...and one that I'm particularly interested in..here's my two-cents...
Was driving to work today and noticed they put up some exciting banners! They're calling it "Millennium Hotel" ....I'm confused, is it a Marriott? Or is it managed by Millennium hotels and BEING built by Millennium/Suro? *laughs*
I guess we'll have to wait and see. Glad they're doing construction now, though! Here are some pictures I took quickly. Apologies ahead of time...I know the quality is bad.

Oddly enough.I heard from the Friends of Nanaimo.that the 90+ bookings are over FIVE years.so we have to be careful how we read the numbers.....
I hope that the taxpayers get their moneys worth from the downtown area.and I truly hope that the local merchants that have been operating a business for so many years reap some benefits long overdue.
Hotel will not be done until 2011-12 now...they ran past their due date by 5 days to get something started, so on the sixth daythere was a bobcat and some pillars on the ground.a slab of concrete lifted up..WOW! Let the building begin.. culpable
I am biased in that I like the truth.not the cleaned up version for all those who tend to let the others lead without question, or at least hard questions to make them culpable for their decisions.

Wow, organizations are booking the Vancouver Island Conference Centre FIVE years in advance!
Book NOW, before someone takes your week or weekend.
That is terrific.

How did I read it wrong. . . . according to you, people are booking conventions over the next 5 years. That is terrific that people are booking that far in advance!
Of course, you could read that it is an average of 18 a year which is pretty good for a facility that only opened 4 days ago.
Is there any info on what the average number of people per conference is expected to be? Also, does the city have an estimated "economic multiplier" expected for each conference attendee?
Thanks in advance,
