Thread: The Fox and Hounds - Britsh Pub Style eats and more

  1. Default The Fox and Hounds - Britsh Pub Style eats and more

On Milton Street across from the fire hall you will notice an old, red telephone booth before a flight of stairs. Take those stairs and enter the Fox and Hounds - what a great atmosphere, cheery owner and delicious Brit food. We enjoyed the Sunday night roast dinner with after dinner drinks last night, and earlier in the week we went in and tried out the bangers and mash. I also enjoyed a nice Strongbow while my partner had a pint of the Dunkl we were both very pleased with the food (so much so that it is our new 'place')
Fish and Chips, Spotted Dick, Bangers and Mash, Yorkshire Puddings...it's all there. I would whole heartedly recommend it =)

    Er, what's Spotted Dick?
    *Googles*
    Oh.

    From Wikipedia:
"It is also known as spotted dog, plum duff, steamed dicky, dicky pudding, figgy dowdy, as well as plum bolster, and Spotted Richard."

Anyway, sounds great! I'll have to get up there. So, right by Fitzwilliam - by the RCMP station, no?

They've got Kilkenny and Boddingtons in cans as I remember. The food is just ridiculously good. I was so impressed with the REAL roast gravy that was all over my bangers&mash.

On Sunday "British Roast Dinner" Night, you can have a Roast Beef dinner OR a Roast Turkey Dinner. Each comes with the appropriate fixin's - like, how about a sausage rolled up in bacon with the turkey dinner? Hello, delicious.

Really cool atmosphere with the solid wood construction and tables, stylish bar & fireplace to warm up to. Totally my new "home away from home".

I was driving by there the other day and saw the phone booth. I thought I was seeing things! I love the Crow and Gate, so now I've got to try this new place

This new pub is housed in the building which used to be Milano's and then, briefly, Amadeus. I would agree with the previous posts that it is an excellent concept, and the owners are delightful. Not unlike the Crow and Gate, you have to place your orders at the bar, but then the food is delivered to your table. It is way above average pub fare, and the on tap beers are from the Longwood Brew Pub. If you order any of the Indian curries on offer and you like it really spicy, you have to really emphasize that you want it very hot. This is a welcome addition to the city's dining out scene.

Our family just got back from eating there. We liked it a lot. (Any place that carries Newkie Brown is ace in my books). The stilton and steak pie was devoured by my hubby. He really liked it. Q: Do they incorporate the Stilton into the "gravy" or how does the flavour come through without the french onion soup cheese thang going on?

I had the Madras curry. It was fairly good.

All in all, a nice place for a meal.
