Default Cable bay golf resort and spa

Information meeting regarding the Cable bay golf resort and spa at Cable bay off Holden Corso Rd. just outside of Cedar.

January 16, 2008 7PM in the Cedar Community hall

519 acre destination resort and residential exclusive complex.

claims to be a reasonable replacement for potential jobs lost from Harmac industrial site. OK? How much does a person make serving cocktails to the elite anyhow? Not that I'm being a smart ass about it. But lets see... PPWC entry level position $20/hr. Greens maintenance wages for world class golf resort $11/hr ... being able to look up at the snout of a rich ass tourist...priceless.

Just Kiddin' it's a world class resort.

Some Cedar residents are not impressed with the plan!

I'd go so far as "many" Cedar residents. Including the Area Representative Joe Burnett... The meeting for the city council 1st and 2nd reading to passing the bylaw that would allow the Urban Containment Boundary to be changed, removing 100 acres of natural greenspace and trails from Cedar, and let the resort/golf course/mega development be built will be held on January 28th.

The only way to stop this development is to turn out in huge numbers and speak in opposition to it.Your support is critical.

I was being tounge in cheek in the opening post there alas.

I'm not convinced this is a bad thing.

Other than that it will overpopulate the cable bay trail and probably fill it with concrete monkeys that have no concept of what rural actually is, I don't see the negatives.

    Can you enlighten me?

BTW my thoughts on 'what rural actually is' is a place where kids can ride motocross, people can ride horses on the side of the road, the wood shed doesn't have to be sided to match the house and where a hole in your muffler isn't the end of the world.

Oh ya and if that horse poops in front of your house ya can thank the rider and wheelbarrow it into the garden for fertilizer.

I know that 'urban sprawl' is one of the issues being raised by the opponents. There is a website: www.sosnanaimo.org that has some more info and background.
The phrase 'You can't fight City Hall' is true, cities rarely look at development as a bad thing. I'm looking for property on the Island for future relocation, and I'm very aware that any land with a shoreline that's near a city WILL be developed eventually. If traffic is a major concern, lobby city hall to force the developer to put in their own access road...as experience has shown me that the developer puts in only the bare minimum (west side of a road, for example) if the city lets them get away with it.

I checked out the website. Lots of hand wringing woe is 'us' stuff but not a single name. Not one of those people put their information up on the site. No list of people to contact for more information.

Sorry but I dont support people who wont identify themselves. Just like I didnt support the Mohawks at Oka who would not remove their masks.

    Hmmm

You want to buy property and develop it to your needs but are trying to keep everyone else out?

LOL something like that...I'm looking for a proper rural lifestyle (with farm animals etc), so I'm looking for something that may stay rural for my lifetime...I'll admit I don't want a condo development right on my doorstep...but really, I can't blame others for wanting to develop shoreline properties...many people would be happy to reside in one of those!

    At least you admit it.

There are too many people here who will fight any development in their area but never admit that its just because they dont want it.

Instead they dress it up in environmental concerns, or paint the developers as greedy, or whatever justification they can find instead of admitting that it is simply a matter of personal interest.

It is amusing to me that the 'so called' Friends of Plan Nanaimo filled the papers with half truths and innuendo concerning the convention centre and then ran a slate in the city elections. They really only wanted a piece of the pie for themselves. Most of the people against the airport expansion are those who live on the glide path. Go figure. But they will never admit it.
