Not sure what the motive is there, but it continues today, many people around Nanaimo think the development is going forward already.
Whenever there is two opposing sides to a project, each side always has the attitude that the project will go move in the direction to their own beliefs.

It is obvious that the project would fail if the developer showed the public that they would lose, as it is natural that if the opposition showed that they were giving up, the project would move ahead without any problems.

I do find it very interesting that SOSNanaimo is spearheaded by a former NDP MLA and that they have extreme experience in getting public opinion to lean towards their side. It is unfortunate that they have to over emphasize their point of view to the level of misinforming the public on certain points, just as the developers being business people may be saying things in order to get the public on their side.

    It is human nature!

I noticed a banner/sign on one of the parkway overpasses earlier this month. It read: Cable Bay = Climate Change
Banners have been put up on Highway overpasses for years without permits. I like the "happy birthday" types we see often on the Wellington overpass.

Are you suggesting that the developer move the 400+ acres to outside the city boundaries? It makes more sense to bring the 97 acres into the city.

That is not what I am suggesting at all. What I am suggesting is for the land owner to live with the land designation that exists on the land today. The 97 acres have a rural designation in the OCP of Area A. If they cannot abide by that they should not have bought the property.

As for what happens to the land that is within the City boundaries I have no problem with the CON council designating it as they wish.

Interesting sidenote... the Official Community Plan of Area A that directs the land use within the area in question would have been passed by a vote of the RDN board as a whole. In the approval of the last OCP, Korpan, McNabb, Holdom and Sherry were all on the Board at the time and voted in favour of the current OCP that included a rural use of this land. Just interesting how opinions change when the City can benefit.

So, no change is ever going to happen because somebody once imposed an arbitrary line on a map?

I remember when not that many years ago, it was a virtual wilderness North of Long Lake. Rutherford Road twisted and turned up to Long Lake Road and there were no subdivisions off Hammond Bay beyond Nottingham (which only went up and had two side streets. Further out Hammond Bay, they had just started building Fillinger Road and Parkway had about 20 houses on it. Dover and McGirr schools would have had less then 200 students combined . . .

Someone moved the line and Nanaimo grew . .. .. ..

Opinions change, strategy changes, thoughts change, rules change, ideas form and planners apply for changes.. . . it is called progress and the political arena is designed for changes. .. .that is why it is there. . .. to change!

I think he's trying to say that you should fill up what's inside that line before you move it.....

That is exactly what I am saying.

Also the draft Nanaimo OCP states the following

RGS Goal 3: Rural Integrity. To protect and strengthen the Region’s rural economy and lifestyle.
There are very few areas of rural lands within city limits. The delineation of the UCB serves to focus urban growth, to preserve ALR lands and environmentally sensitive areas, and to protect rural areas from higher density urban development. The UCB provides a clear separation between
community serviced lands and those agricultural and environmentally sensitive areas intended to be protected in the long term. Focusing growth to the urban nodes and corridors will also minimize the impacts of development on the lands outside the UCB.

The irony of this statement is that whenever there is rural land that the City wants to develop they simply move the urban containment boundary so that it is now considered urban not rural...
