Default Are you single and hating the bar scene?

Hi I am a new member in this forum, I'm trying to find feedback on an idea I have, so please let me know what you think.
I'm 25 I don't drink hardly at all ...mainly New Years Eve, I'm not into drugs of any kind AT ALL! So how will I ever find anyone who has the same interests when it seems the only way to meet people is at the bar? I would like to organize a singles group here in Nanaimo, that gets together 1-2 times a month and does something fun. I have a few ideas and am open to suggestions but heres some:

    A hike on Newcastle
    Kayaking
    Movie night
    mini golf in parksville

these are all things that can be done as a group so theres no blind date crap to go with it. The only catch of course is we each pay our own way.

    What do ya think?

I have a lot of friends who go to the bar and still don't drink, just cause it's a good way to be social. Not sure if that's at all what you're interested in, but just thought I'd let you know

There are lots of people out there who don't like bar scene and find the bar scene rather boring when you are there but no drinking.... and there are lots of people out there who do not want to find a relationship that involves that scene either.

I think your idea would work because there are definately people out there who look for other ways of meeting people, aside from bars and stuff......

I am not single so I won't speak for myself. But I'd give it a try if I were you. I am sure something good would come out of it.

I'm not big on the bar scene... I mean.. I go. But I'm not big on it . Dancing at rock bars is fun.. when there is a rock bar to dance at. As for you ideas...

If it is possible to find people in this town who aren't really into the bar scene I would be happy to get together for activities like that.

    A hike on Newcastle
    Kayaking
    Movie night
    mini golf in parksville

are all things i would be into.

I also think it's a good idea. Many people express this frustration. The bar is of course a great place to land yourself in an unstable relationship.

Work and school are usually the best places to meet sober people. I'm still wanting to start some kind of outdoor group - but it would have to be sort of alternative - it would include night hikes, and hikes with rum, etc. (Nothing to do with singles here - I'm not single myself - but it would certainly be a good alternative to trying to meet people in a crowded, noisy meat market.)

    Nice thread, Christine...

I would be down for something like that. The bar is no place to meet people unless you like seing them act stupid and are into the sort of thing.

Well some people tend to get crazy in bars thats fer sure. Then there are some that just are so funny when theyre drunk..make an ass outta themselves. But thats the bar scene.I doubt it will ever change. I like the ideas U posted. It be fun way to met new people and have somethin to do on certain nights of the week. Who knows maybe someone will actually hook up out of it. Could be the way to go as far as meeting people is concearned. I'd be up for it..ED

Personally i really can't stand the bars....just generally aggrivating..
You cannot just write off that final scene, take heed of the dream.
