A large sign has been posted on the site of the old zoo off Rutherford Road. Sign says that they are starting with developing park, trails and wetlands in Sept 2010, with subdivision development starting in the Spring of 2011.
Nice map shown and their website is www.LinleyPoint.ca
The website is still under development but some info available.
Looks interesting!
Just went out there today and found it to be very overgrown. We had to bushwack to get down to see this railing. We also went through the bush and found a few foundation type structures possibly left over from the old zoo. They have already started excavating so who knows how long we will be able to access this area. Such a nice walk!
aaaaaaaaah, now that puts it in to persepective. I still have yet to go there, because I get confused anytime I get close to it.... Thanks for sharing the photos... For some reason, I was imagining the railings looking different!

An article in the Nanaimo Daily News today (http://bit.ly/dMJsD5) has brought our old zoo back into the public view. Lots of information in there that we've discussed here (and I see they used my image of the zoo postcard too).
I know they say they're "sort of" going to do that, can't remember exactly how it was worded, but I hate to see an area like that messed with. If that writer hangs around this forum (and might, since your image of the postcard is featured), should have tried to nail the developer down more on the real plans for the wetlands. I've got to the point where I don't believe most of what people say. Just had a birthday, so I'm adopting what an older friend used to say: "I'm too old a cat to be screwed by kittens."
Hey guys!
I've been reading up a little bit on this since yesterdays news. Not sure if this has been shared, (didnt go through every page on this post) but I found a little bit more detail about this in a Nanaimo book. here's the link. Check it out... and again sorry if someone has already shared this information.
