To me there was nothing wrong with the name Malaspina College/University. It has had the name since it's beginnings in the 60's. I wish they would quit changing the names of things in this town. What next? Are they going to change the name of our fair city?

They already changed things from the Hub City to the Harbour City...

If you are the government, when it comes to spending our money, you have to spend as much as possible for the least amount of benefit!I wonder how much of a million dollar bill it will be to change all the signage, stationery, equipment not to mention all the consulting and legal work that it takes for a name change?Well at least there will be that merchandising income from T-shirt and hoodie sales to offset it!

The plan is to use the existing stationary until it is used and signage will be a gradual thing but will keep the grounds staff busy maybe right through summer. Malaspina will apparently still be the CAMPUS name for the location in Nanaimo. While those of us in Nanaimo hate to see the Malaspina name gone, I am sure that the satellite campuses will be glad to see the change to (example) Vancouver Island University ~ Courtenay Campus.

I think it makes sense in the long term. As the school grows, VIU will be a better identity for the satellites and for recruiting foreign students. It does have a flow to it doesnt it?

    Default Courtenay Campus?

    Say Smokey,

Is there a Courtenay campus? Does this mean that VIU is taking over my ol' alma mater NIC ( North Island College)? I was under the impression that NIC ruled the roost Courtenay wise, Malaspina pulled in Parksville/Qualicum and Powell River to the north...but I could be out to lunch on this.. : )

    Cheers,
