I like the idea of naming it for one of our own. I am not a huge fan but it seems appropriate to name a plaza that is used primarily for music shows after a native daughter that is known throughout the western world. It seems a little less sterile than harbour front plaza

I think we should call it "Elvis Costello Common" after Mr. Diana Krall...

At least there are still Gogos in town - we should call it the Gogo Atrium for Performing Arts, and then the local media can report on the "gogoings on"!

The Diana Krall Plaza is like Duncan renaming something in honour of Pam Anderson....just not necessary

I do hope you aren't comparing Diana Krall to Pamela Anderson (who is actually from Ladysmith) .

Most cities recognize their famous sons and daughters. There arent many in the music business who do not know who Diana Krall is.

Given, "Harbour Front Plaza" isn't that creative, but we're not trying to cover anything here.. it's a plaza, by the harbour... sounds nice, no?

Absolute personal opinion: I don't see the strong 'connection' with Diana Krall... maybe someone can correct me, but as I see it, she grew up here, got out at an early age(17), School & Studies with other famous artists in Boston->LA->New York->First Album in 1990 (long gone from Nanaimo) Honestly, I bet she hardly looked back, and it seems most of her inspiration and success was from sources outside of Nanaimo... (although a couple highschools here DO have pretty awesome Jazz programs)

Oh well, we can all bitch about it, but there's someone somewhere that thinks this is a good 'angle' to get attention to the area... gotta start somewhere... People in business stick their neck out all the time to get ahead, but when the city tries to do it - watch out!

I wish the Nanaimo Ice Center would. My lacrosse tickets say games are at "NIC".

While I'm on arenas...Wikipedia and Google have failed me... Who is Frank Crane?
