I see that council has named a room at the conference centre for thelate Doug Rispin. And he was just *gasp* a city politician!!

Who spent 12 years of his life working hard for the City. I may not have agreed with some of his policies and objectives but at least he was down in the dirt trying to get something that he believed in completed, not for wealth or fame or a big house in Nanoose but rather just trying to help his City.

An interesting letter in today's paper echos my thoughts on the naming of Diana Krall Plaza.

Diana Krall has earned right to be honoured

I like the change of name.I love Diana Krall's albums. my favorite song of hers is about Departure Bay.
I believe she is an inspiration to many young people here in town. I took the jazz program in the mid eighties. Many of us felt that if she can, we can too.
I felt so proud when our band played at Diana Krall Plaza during the Blues Festival. Much better than playing at Beggars Plaza!
How wonderful to see the place full of people dancing and having a great time. No panhandlers and no problems.
It would have made citizens feel more included if the powers at council had allowed some consultation but lets just leave it be.
    Change council not the name

Every harbor town has a Harborfront square or plaza

Can't agree more: Harbour front plaza would be the appropriate name!! I don't like this constant plaza name changes! Same like "North Nanaimo Town Center" ..it will always be the "Rutherford Mall" especially for the people who live here a long time!

A lot of folks don't like the name changes. Someone asked me (one day down at the wharfingers office) where a certain restaurant was in town and when I told them it was where Gondola Pizza used to be, they said thanks and drove off.

    Default A bit proud tonight

While I am less than indifferent to the (re)naming of the Harbour Park Plaza to the Diana Krall Plaza, I must say I was a bit prouder to be from Nanaimo tonight after watching Ms. Krall play at a private intimate event for President Obama at the White House in honor of Mr. Stevie Wonder.

    Local gal does well

Correct me if i am wrong but i thought the Diana Krall Plaza was the open area in front of the Library by Mon Pettit Choux? There is construction going on there to put in some benchs and other things for an upgrade for the olympics i think?????
