I am going to feel much better when this is all off your backs. Discrimination bothers me enough let alone when you know the people and story behind it all. You will overcome this trap, and buskers will finally take the dignified and important place they have in our local culture. Who would argue with good live free music on a pay if you like it and can afford to basis??? Its like spitting on a gift! so glad you have a lawyer.

I guess I spoke to soon as queen of the waterfront told me she just recieved a call from Veneta Roberge at bylaw services indicating that the next busking review meeting will be April 2nd 2009, According to Queen of the waterfront she was told that Veneta Roberge had sent me an email with this information but I have not recieved any emails from bylaw services nor have I had any calls from them. I'm not hard to find and I have not had an email address change in 7 years. If and when I do get any information on the bylaw review I will post it.

    @Piper

Just listen and enjoy your music together with my daughter (in Vancouver / English
Bay) over internet your songs and the lovely voice of Queen of the Waterfront.

I was producing two x times a 3 hours broadcasting about Vancouver Island and
Canada at our radio station with live stream "Canada - more than 6000 miles
away from home...." and had listener in Germany, Italy, Netherlands
and Canada B.C., Alberta, Ontario, also over the radio internet. Soon we will produce a live-broadcast again about Canada, the 3rd, cause so much people were asking for. There was a wonderful feed back.I had a bunch
of letters, lovely mails and calls and gifts cause the last two broad casts.
    Most about Vancouver Island.

I will take "your music" in the next broadcast, I like it and feel close to
Nanaimo and Vancouver Island. Hope I can listen you and your family
one day in Nanaimo. Also I will talk about the busker scene in
Nanaimo and Vancouver Island with my radio colleague.

And a second very important theme about some experiences in
    Nanaimo.

    good luck for you

    calendar

my daughter was last week in Vancouver with friends at
St. Patrick's Day Parade and later in a Irish Pub with the friends and suddenly
a man / thief was taken away her jacket with her money bag with all
private documents, identy card, Visa card, sky train card for the month
and her digicam with all memories of her stay in Canada since
August 2008, all films, all pictures were on this camera. Some pictures
she had taken at a link and some films, but not all. Also he had
taken the bag of an other young man. The young man noticed
this incident and was running behind the thief and got the bag and the jacket
back, also the jackte of my daughter, but the money bag and digicam was not more
inside. I got some phone calls in the night 3 o clock and later in the early morning, 4 o clock. And I heard the voice of a very very sad girl in Vancouver. She thought she lost all her memories at one moment at St. Patrick's Day and I was so far away. But the memories are in her mind she told
    me later.

But so much people suddenly helped her. She got next day a
replacement Visa Card from a courier, she got from a stranger a
camera and next day she felt better. She was two times at the police
department and I had to go here in Germany till today to the city hall cause
her identy card and other things she lost. I am so glad that she was not
lost there. I told her to record music with her camera of busker's in
    Vancouver.

Yes all went well (better) there (like in a fairy tale).

Some seems like a myth. For example I heard some myths of eagles.

My daughter was before two weeks at a Native memorial ceremony
of Grand Chief John L. George, Squamish and she told me that they saw two eagles
flying very below. So we heard also from others. May be the reason there
are a lot of eagles. I read and heard it often about the eagles when
    they are ceremonies.

Saturday was in Vancouver at Victoria Square a Native Performance
called 8000 drums. My daughter told me that when the drums
began two times two eagle were flying very close to the drummers.

They wondered about. Later the drums began again and again and eagles
were flying so below over the heads of my daughter and her friends.
They were really surprised, cause it was in Down Town.

So I remember the last part of the epilogue of Helmut Hirnschall about
    Chief Dan George

"When Chief Dan George was buried, family and friends watched
In awe as an eagle appeared overhead and flew, in silent circles.
After the grave had swallowed the casket, the eagle disappeared
    into the clouds."

I would like to talk about a couple of things this evening first of all I want to help promote a new group in town called Sadly Available here is the website to check them out, http://web.me.com/cfarenholtz/Site/S...Available.html

My next concern is I was at the DNPS (downtown nanaimo partnership society) annual general meeting tonight where councilor Merv Unger was elected president of the DNPS, This bothers me as councilor Unger is also on the board of the DNPS representing the taxpayers of Nanaimo and he has also been invited to participate as a stakeholder from the city of Nanaimo on the busking review committee. My personal oppinion about councilor Unger is he is not busker friendly judging by my observations in the past and the way he talks to me knowing I am a busker. As I have posted on this thread before a lot of our problems with busking in Nanaimo originated at the DNPS under the direction of George Hansen. The way it looks to me is a repeat of the same old group making up rules for buskers in Nanaimo. They had no respect before for buskers and I don't see that changing any time soon. I have posted things about the bylaw review earlier on this thread that seemed positive after speaking with Randy Churchill of bylaw services but I'm having second thoughts about the direction of how this bylaw review may go. If indeed councilor Unger does read this thread he now knows that I can speak freely on here without being interupted and silenced as I adhere to the rules of the forum. If I have lost a friend by voicing my oppinion thats unfortunate but I seem to have no troubles making new friends everyday. There is lots more to come on this thread about Busking in Nanaimo in the next few weeks.

Queen of the waterfront I hope you are right I'm not looking forward to working out the bylaw review with anyone who has a negative attitude about buskers and I will stand up and tell them regardless if they throw me out.
We have a few knowledgable buskers in Nanaimo with good ideas some of those ideas are equivelent to ours but in order for to get a fair bylaw they would have to include both you and I on the committee otherwise we will end up with what we allready have. This would not be a good scene. To date I will admit that I have told our story all over the world about our busking dilemma here in Nanaimo and only focussed on the music networks such as radio and forums or blogs across Canada. I have been patient long enough and getting ready to push the issue and start posting on tourism sites and much more. I have made a big difference in the last few months informing people about our busking experience here in our fair city and gathered thousands of supporters for a fair and workable busking bylaw. I plan to continue with my efforts until I am satisfied that what happened to both you and I while busking in Nanaimo will never happen to my kids as buskers or any other busker. If I seem like I am a thorn in someones side that is absoloutely correct and I have good reasons for being this way as the last 113 pages of this thread will explain.

So did you get an email from bylaws yet?
They said they need two weeks notice for the buskers to get together at our last meeting.

i did get a phone call. They didnt ask if it was convenient for me. i did give the lady my email address and still no email of confirmation.
If they are really are interested in the stake holders of downtown why did Bruce Barnard know nothing about it?

Eric McLean knew nothing about it either and MAtt Hussman didnt even know who "Veneta" was.

Kim Smythe the gentleman we met at council knows absolutely nothing about a review or the bylaws. That is not an oversight on his part he just has not been informed.
perhaps we should conduct our own survey of downtown merchants and residents to see if they have even heard from bylaws?
