What I meant was, you and other buskers are collecting money from tourists and other people and you are spending that money in the Nanaimo community on goods and services. That is good for the Nanaimo economy. The disposable income you are collecting may otherwise end up out of town to be spent in other communities if you were not working (busking) for it here in Nanaimo.

So it's a win-win situation to have good buskers playing on the waterfront. And yeah, Korpan appears to be not so busker friendly. Maybe he doesn't recognize how much money is being brought into the Nanaimo community via busking. Maybe give Korpan a rough tally of how much you and Piper earn and spend in the community per year through your busking and that might FINALLY open his eyes. Some people need to see the $$$$$$$$ before they finally sit up and pay attention.

TH I believe that Korpan is more of a talker than a listener,He has been trying to destroy our family since we spoke out about busking regulations that were overkill. He did not expect to have so much trouble from a couple of buskers I believe he thought we would just go away. Anything I would write about him I would tell him to his face and take my chances. I have been told that he had troubles in school at Woodlands maybe thats why he loves to be so ignorant he loves having power he didn't have during school years. I'm not to worried because the kids he destroyed while they were busking are now bigger than he is and they don't forget.

It sure seems strang with his reverance of money that he would try and break your bubble. Its always been a mystery to me why they harassed your familly. After seeing and learning more I think he holds a hyper responsiveness to real or imagined insult that is his downfall as mayor. He said city staff is professional and they dont hold grudges. Perhaps he would consider a job as city staff and let Harry Berry take the lead lol.

With the busking bylaw being reviewed very soon I am looking for input about how to make the bylaw better besides what I would like to see change. Ideas locations for busking, amplification or no amplification. Anything that I can present to the chairperson at these meetings. I will keep a log of anything legitimate that could make preparing the new bylaw for street entertainers better. I will be at the meeting with or without other buskers. If they don't show up they will have nothing to complain about.

I dont know a great deal about the issues such as amplification etc. I wouldnt want loud at the waterfront for sure. I would like to enjoy the coffee shop without having to listen to a loud amature band! I would love some accoustic music happening in that spot, but I do like to hear a singer. (But these are just personal preferances.)

You wont get many out for the meeting. A few of the buskers know about the injunction . No one wants to lose their instrument and go to jail.
    I applaud your efforts.
Nanaimo has very few buskers these days due to the strict bylaws and poor working conditions.
    i guess I have become a wimp.
We played the Red MArtini Grill last night . it was packed and CD sales were brisk.I was warm ,dry and had an audience. i dont get that busking any more.
As part of a six piece band , the wages dont come close to what I made busking. There are no bylaws, police or Port Authority personel to hassle me.
Next week we play Fairwinds so I guess you wont find me taking too much time out of my life to fight for better bylaws.
    Been there and Done that.
i will miss all my waterfront friends but i wont miss the discrimination and the harassment.

I am well aware of the strict bylaws and I'm going to try and have them changed for the good. If you don't violate the street entertainers bylaw you won't go to jail or lose your instrument. I could play everyday at seniors homes or I have had invitations to team up with bands in Vancouver twice this year but I will stick to busking in Nanaimo. It's close to home and I don't have a boss to worry about.

I'm with you there piper. I hope you do get a turn out and I guess if you dont there will be a very few people with muscle behind their complaints, at least on this issue. I can understand the buskers being discouraged as queen of the waterfront is (well to put it mildly) but I sure would love to see a win here, not just for the buskers but for the listeners as well. Good luck to you!!

I'm very vocal and I'm going to try my best but if I see or hear something that's not right I have the option to walk away and play without a license and have a closed case. But this time my digital camera will allways be with me so I don't get accused of something I didn't do by bylaw officers or RCMP.
I'm not afraid to go to jail I have been there before.
