Finally, a team of industrious fellows came in with trucks and garbage cans and mowers and turned the places upside down. THey were hired by the City to clean and remove. It was done in a weekend, the places looked great, and the owners were presented with the bill. Both houses were on the market within a week of each other.Guess if you wait long enough, there is always someone to do your dirty deeds.
I'd bet that the City probably immediately placed liens on the titles to the properties, so that when they were sold, the City would have "first dibs" on the proceeds of the sales. The owners wouldn't even have touched the amount of money it cost the City to clean up--it would have gone from the lawyers handling the deals, straight to the City.

I only know of one first hand, and it was an elderly lady, and she needed to move for health reasons, many of them conducive to her hoarding, so the monies were directed to her. The other, you could very well be right on the button.

Maybe, because, the City Counsel doesn't know about it? Did you inform them?

Also, if it's just a weed and over-grown grass issue, don't waste the city's time. They won't do anything, nor should they have to. That takes place all over the city.

And, also, as far as "abandoned" goes. Take a drive along Nicol Street. Boarded up homes and blah, blah, blah. But none of them, as far as I can see, are operating junk yards, as with the "korey" property on 7th.

I'm not informing anyone. I received some explanatory information via PM and you might notice that I edited my post because of that information. I don't live in that neighbourhood, used to drive by the house virtually every day up until about ten years ago, now it might be twice a year. If the neighbours are not complaining it's none of my business, particularly considering the backgrounder PM I received.

I took the time to read this whole thread and have met piper, Queen of The Waterfront and Kory himself. Also, I took the time to do alot of research about this, the bylaws, their enforcement, and the proper protocol for dealing with violations of the various bylaws.

Conclusion: something does in fact smell afoul.

The first thing that crosses my mind is the very onset of this particular incident: the use of a bucket truck to violate one's private domain. Since they had no warrant to search and inspect the propertya truck was used to peer over a fence that one could not normally see through, over or above. To my notion, this reeks of intent to harrass. Basically, they were saying " you won't let us on the property, we have no just cause to get a warrant and we cannot get evidence of violation, so we will commit an illegal act of violation of privacy to get the evidence of what we need".

Next is that even though Kory may have been in violation, the violation only exsists if the violation can be seen by a normal person in a normal position of veiwing. Clearly a bucket truck is not a normal veiwing posistion for a normal person. After all, how many folks go riding around town held up high from a bucket truck? Now, if this practice is permitted by citizens and the law, how long before bucket trucks will be peering in your home to make sure you are not smoking with kids in the house, using drugs or having sex in the living room? By us saying that using this method for the purpose of gov't intrusion is permitted under ANY circumstance, we open the door to exposure and prosecution or even persecution for any infraction of law or bylaw, even if it is done within the confines of our own walls. Think about that for a moment: the fence at Kory's was the walls of private domain- his. And, that fence should be his guarrantee of privacy, just as the walls of our homes and property fences. There is no other term for what bylaws cops did: invade, intrude upon, and expose one man's quiet lifestyle.

There is much more to say on this matter than I can sit and type out, but there is one more thing that I need to say now:

The very second post in this thread is mine. I said something to the effect that " if you don't clean it up, they will" that he "should keep it clean". I do still stand by that, but, like everyone else, I was duped by biased reports in the paper that stated the yard was full of trash. Thos fictious reports lead us to believe that Kory was keeping a safe haven for vermin, health and enviroment hazards. Those reports neglected to point out what was really there or that the mobile home was on variance, thus permitted and those reports failed to mention that the permitted mobile home was used as a storage of family momentoes {sp?}, personal property, family documents and treasures and vital family information. Did anyone notice that the cops went into this mobile home without warrant? There was no search warrant for the interior, just the outside property. After ransacking the mobile home, the cops had it destroyed, along with all family owned contents, and removed. Why has no one questioned this illegal search and seizure?

To Kory, I apologize for posting in haste and having faith that the newspaper reports were true and accurate. Piper, you did a lot for Kory and, considering no formal education in the field, I do think you did a great job. It was an outstanding act of kindness.

I was just wondering without having to go back and read all these post what happened in the end. Did Kory's family have to pay a heavy bill for the clean up, did it leave them out on the streets and are they looking into taking legal action on this. Sorry but a summary of the final ending would be of interest.
