Default if we are posting CV's

Here are some of the highlights of John Ruttan's contribution to Nanaimo:
    • Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce - 2008 "Citizen of the Year” (for his 40+ years of service to Nanaimo)
    • Chairman – Support YCD Committee (Nanaimo Airport expansion project) (helped get $6.0 million from the Province)
    • Director – Nanaimo & District Museum Society (with John Manning & Shirley Lance)
    • First Vice-President – Tourism Nanaimo (with Jerry Pink & Zeni Maartman)
    • Chairman – Community Policing Advisory Board (CPAC) (with the RCMP)
    • Member – City of Nanaimo Parking Committee (with Brad McAuley, Blake McGuffie & Larry McNabb)
    • Member – Downtown Nanaimo Partnership Business Development Committee (with George Hansen, & Camela Tang)
    • Treasurer and Past Commodore – Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society (with Bill McGuire and many contestants from around the world)
    • Member and Past Director – Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce
    • Member and Past – Nanaimo City Centre Association
    • Chairman (Municipal appointee) of Nanaimo Port Authority (with Gino Sedola)
    • Commissioner (Federal appointee) of Nanaimo Harbour Commission (helped secure over $1.0 million of Federal funds for the Port Theatre)
    • Chairman of Port Advisory Committee (PAC)
    • Past President of Tourism Nanaimo (with Jerry Pink)
    • Former Member of Nanaimo Conference Centre Committee
    • Past Member of Nanaimo Parking Commission/Downtown Development Committee
    • Former Government Appointee to the British Columbia Travel Advisory Board
    • Former Member of Nanaimo Downtown Rotary Club (with numerous Rotary members)
    • Former Member of Nanaimo North Rotary Club (what is the four way test?)
    • Former Member of City of Nanaimo "Imagine Nanaimo" Committee
    • Former Vice President of Nanaimo Jaycee Club
    • Former Member and Pilot of Nanaimo Flying Club

Seems to me all John has done is devote his spare time to the betterment of our community, Nanaimo.

Clearly, John and Diane both have an impressive history of community involvement. Diane has primarily focussed on grassroots work (like standing out in the cold with a
Salvation Army kettle or in the rain selling newspapers for the Raise a
Reader campaign). In contrast, John has restricted himself to the high profile big budget roles.

Actually it illustrates the focus of both candidates.... Diane focuses on people in terms of social issues and a social conscience. John seems to focus on business and especially that related to the downtown area.

I wish the candidates showed some balance. Frankly these days I am more worried about the social aspect as enough emphasis has been placed on the business side with the level of development of high priced housing, conference centres, theatre etc.

Tis not the past but the future for which we are building a better world.

While a persons past experiences and involvement in a community show a bit of their personality, their future outlook is the key information that I require in order to decide who gets the big X next to their name.

I think you would be offending a great number of local Rotarians if you fail to acknowledge the incredible amount of "grassroots" community service work these organizations do, of which John was a part of.

I also doubt that the Museum, at least at its former location, was a high profile big budget endeavour. They were always struggling for cash.

And lastly, I believe the Jaycee's provide young people the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills through local community service and organizational involvement. Helping our youth seems pretty worthwhile to me.

I looked in Ruttan`s collar as he was adjusting his corduroy jacket and I saw TH2008
on a tag sewn into the collar. It must be your jacket from value village.

John lost his temper at the NALT forum. I thought he would handle himself better in public. The mike was turned off when it was sent to him and the second time he got mad. Telling people to leave the mike on from now on and getting noticeable upset and frustrated.

What are you trying to say? I would think at this stage of the game you would be more concerned with imparting wisdom and explaining why you should get people to vote for you.

It seems you spend more time shooting yourself in the foot and then inserting that same foot in your own mouth.

Not what I am looking for in a City leader.

It was a joke made by TH2oo8 Thread #14 this post. Just trying for a little levity that is all.

Better John Ruttan making a fuss about the mic then half the audience!

My other comments are made on the NALT discussion.
