Thread: Brennan or Ruttan?

I've been starting to lean towards John Ruttan in this election. Being Nanaimo's "Citizen of the Year" doesn't make someone experienced for politics though. Diane Brennan has done more socially in Nanaimo than John and should have been considered before John as citizen of the year. I believe John is well-rounded and will be the middle ground for Nanaimo's voters.

Give it another few days and we will know what Nanaimo really wants, rather than all this talk of us being sick of council/mayor. How much do you want to bet at least 4 incumbents win a seat again? That would show that only a minority of voters are "done" with this group.

Actually I am amazed at the mileage that the "Sterling Awards Citizen of the Year" award from the Chamber of Commerce is getting for John.

If he got that kind of mileage on his Subaru, he would win "Green Vehicle Owner of the Year" also.

It is the Citizen of the "Year" award Smokey© not Citizen of the week.

Yes voted on by the Chamber of Commerce... not the residents of Nanaimo.

Are the members of the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce not also residents of Nanaimo?

So is his year up or what? Does it mean he must be a pretty good citizen all the time?

I have been concerned about this. It's one of the reasons why I started this conversation. Yet, I am no longer as concerned as I was, about the prospect of Korpan being re-elected. Especially if his old council is pulled out from under him - we'd still see some changes.

I agree with blue that we will naturally see where the majority votes. But if Mr. Korpan get back into the mayors chair by clearley not being wanted like last time there wont be a whole lot of celebrating going on. Well need to see a whole lot of change on council to balance that. We will want to see at least 50% new council members to have any impact on the way it is today because if smokey gets his majority of old council back a sprinkle of newbies will have next to no voice or power in the decision makeing. The experienced and cllaberative councilors will overide evrything and nothing new will come of that!!

There is a big difference between being elected by a few people at the Chamber vs being elected by THE residents of Nanaimo

My wife believes that I am a great person so I too was elected Nanaimo's Citizen of the Year by the residents of Nanaimo. Almost 20 years consecutively now!!!
