Default Does anyone know of a family doctor taking on new patients.

I just moved here in April.... went to the clinic recently as my knee is causing me lots of pain.... dr told me to get an x ray.. and come back.. I called to make sure they got my results.... the lady at the desk told me , the results are normal.. so no reason to come see the dr that I need to find my own dr here, and not the clinic drs??? WTF.
I called everywhere, and no one is taking patients??
How in heck do I get my knee fixed or at least know what to do about it.... and get a darn Dr here??? Thanks for any advice you have.

    On the knee issue....

If it is a walk in clinic I would just walk in again. When they ask me what is bothering me I would just say my knee.... only once I am in seeing a Doctor would I say that there are some XRays somewhere in this place. If you mention it before I could see reception saying..."Get a doctor and we will send them there..."

I certainly wouldnt be accepting the advice of the "lady on the phone" as to whether or not my knee was ok.... No idea what the qualifications are of this person and if the pain is not going away then things arent ok.

As for getting a regular doctor.... sorry cant help you there...

The easy way is often the hardest. . . use the yellow pages and start phoning offices . . . hopefully after a few calls you will get directed to which Doctor is accepting new patients.

Smokey is 100% right. A family member of mine did just that. She phoned and phoned Doctor's offices in Nanaimo and she finally got one

First off Barbie I would go to that clinic in person and ask the same question. Do not take the word of a receptionist or nurse that the x-ray is OK. Demand to see the same Dr. as before. You need a follow up, you may need to make an appointment.

You have a right to medical care in this Province. If you get stiffed again go to the paper, post it here and contact our MLA. I'll come onside and help with that if I see another post and trust me, they will not enjoy my lobby once I'm rolling.

That is simply bullsheet! Pisses me off to hear about people treated like that.

Then call Caledonia clinic for their Doctors list. We found Dr Olivier at Caledonia and he is possibly the best Doctor my family has ever had. Can't say enough about that.

Thanks guys.. I did call Calendonia today, and I have an appoitment with the same Dr I saw ... not for 2 weeks but oh well..... She also told me they aren't taking new patients right now but hired a few new Drs so soon I guess.
I don't go to thr Dr often, but I know I have some joint issues happening, so I really need to smarten up and take care of myself.. but man it is soo darn difficult when I am self employed.. to take time off ....
Hopefully I will find a good Dr soon.....
    Thanks for all your help.

Default Does anyone know of a family doctor taking on new patients.

I have phoned all over town to see if any doctors are taking on new patients. The only new patients any of them will take on are people that are new to Nanaimo. I really want to change my family doctor.

Does anyone know of a doctor that will accept new patients even if they already have one in Nanaimo.

    Your input is appreciated.
