Gary uses email, reviews city documents, etc. So he does need the laptop in order to campaign. Again it is an expense I'm sure that his campaign contributors would be happy with him incurring. All they care about is him getting elected, and the use of a computer is essential to his campaign as well as ongoing work.
Personally I dont see anything in the provincial legislation that makes it wrong to buy a computer for a campaign. However, he bought it outside the timeframe allowed by the provincial legislation and therefore it could be considered a misappropriation of donations.

I see how a computer can help him with the job allright especially if he dosnt have one in his city office to use. However he did buy it after being elected so I dont see how it helped him get there in the last election. I dont really care except for the thread that said hes not using a computer to publish his platform and he isnt putting up signs till halloween is over...so other than the signs I guess he is just like evryone else? I thought he wasnt using a computer because twisted things were being said about the other candidates on line. Garry mentions his blood pressure often, so I imagine that would be hard on his health? I saw Sign Solutions putting up brand new 4 by 8 signs on Bowen road for Garry today. I wander what he is doing with all the signs he paid to store. Oh well who cares....not the contributers....Unless he dosnt get elected?

I find it interesting that people have to resort to attacking our mayor for his campaign contributions instead of going after him for decisions he made that affect us and OUR MONEY. Who really cares about what he did with his campaign funds? Other then the fact that he got some contributions and accounted for his spending of them, as required. Any monies collected must be spent! He collected and he spent! He tried his best to keep our tax increase to a minimum and stated last night he will continue to keep our taxes down in the future.

Korpans honesty directly effects a number of issues that matter when we count on him to make fair and just decisions and when he is in power. If he missappropriated his campain contributions, and some folks have found some curious descrepancies ie companies that dont exist etc...well you've read them as we all have, this is not honest. I have never heard a politician who didnt say they would keep low, or lower taxes. Didnt we just get a huge increase last year? ( My property taxes went from 1500 to 2000 dollars last year) We wont see an increase in an election year naturally! (no one has suggested Mr Korpan is stupid.) How will the council and Mayor pay the new improved salaries they received this year? Are the voters thought to have such short memories?

If they are indeed out of pocket expenses & are inflated they still are tax deductable!
Kind of like an inflated insurance claim..

If he is unethical about his campaign funds or not altogether up front;would we expect him to be different in his office as Mayor?
Seems the more perks that are given , the more are taken.

That goes for any candidate but particularly for those who know the law.

Is there proof that he is being unethical?

I have not seen one shred of proof!

It is only assumptions so far.

The proof is in the pudding.

People are asking questions for reasons.

I am getting a sense that many people in Nanaimo are much more interested in the politics of the city than they used to be.
I think people want to be informed.

Perhaps they need some form of reassurance in thse troubled times.
What they are getting is platitudes and promises im many cases.

That hotel wasnt just a promise ir was a premise of a referrendum that barely passed and was done in a questioable manner to begin with.

We see things that just dont seem right. As human beings we just want to know.

Yes, the building of the hotel was part of the complete package that we voted on in the referendum and the CITY has done due diligence on getting the hotel built. Council has had to try to move within their perimeters on getting the hotel built also. Every step of the way, council has voted on methods to get the hotel built. They will continue to do so when the new council is sworn in. This was stated by Korpan at the meeting last night when the hotel issue came up.

The hotel however has nothing to do with Korpan's alleged handling of his campaign funds. In my opinion, the twisting of facts such as his ethics and throwing the hotel into the equation shows that he is considered a threat to being re-elected and those against him will stop at nothing to try to convince people otherwise.

Give me ONE example of how he is unethical in his handling of anything he has done as Mayor along with PROOF.

I think Gary has done something to me which was wrong.

I am not saying he is unethical . I am saying that as the head of local government he must be seen to do right and be ethical.
    People are asking questions.

i personally think that Gary has his own code of ethics.I think he is probably a good man who believes that he is doing right.
he must be seen by the public to be doing right.

We expect more of polititians than we do of ourselves.

THis thread has raised question not actually made accusations.
