The Nanaimo Port Authority has distributed a proposed amendment to their authority which will severely restrict the public use of the Harbour to boaters whom live aboard or anchor their vessels. This proposed change is punitive and unacceptable to all Canadians. Furthermore they have installed gates preventing the passage along the taxpayer funded PUBLIC marina, further restricting our use of the harbour. Please pick up a copy of the proposed changes at the wharfingers office in the harbour and pay close attention to section 10 of the proposal which limits the period vessels may be anchored in these PUBLIC waters. Many people rely on this PUBLIC facility and harbour. Many of the liveaboards have very little money to pay for, and maintain these draconian measures. I suggest a flotilla of boaters get together to show our contempt for these ridiculous measures.
