As usual, you tell it the way it is. As far as I'm concerned, prostitution should be legalized and the girls should be working in brothels where they'll be safe. The problem is the price range. The street hookers we see standing on curbs probably wouldn't be given a job in a brothel, certainly not like the Cadillac, so what do we do with them? Another problem is where do we put the brothels? "Not in anyone's back yard" is what would happen. But there has to be a better solution than what we've got right now, which is no solution at all. And sooner or later (probably sooner), there'll be another Willy around.

I think you already said this, more or less. But the street level girls will NEVER be able to get jobs at brothels. They are too addicted and have other negative influences in their lives, like bad boyfriends (aka "PIMPS") and trash like that feeding off the misery they live in. And that will always keep them on the street corners. So brothels will not get rid of the corner girls. We'll just have to standards if brothels ever came to Nanaimo. The girls still will be working the street corners. And the others will be working in the brothels. The other problem might be, if we got to be known as a sex tourism destination.

The brothels don't bother me so much as seeing these young people selling themselves on the corners around Nanaimo. It's all drug addiction and human misery. Just my little two cents worth.

Helping a friend move a few months ago in the south end, I saw a lady working the street. And her pimp (this fat Asian dude) was just 20 feet away from her. The people in the houses came out to yell at this creep and run him off. Did that stop him? Nope. He didn't care. The legalization of brothels in Canada would only create a larger division of sex trade classes. The brothels would offer a "safer-sex" alternative for those who can afford it, and who wish to participate in "socially acceptable" sex acts. Any sex abuser (or those who can't afford brothels) will still buy their sex from the troubled teens and drug addicts selling sex on the streets.These prostitutes would still be under control of a pimp, but now are faced with more client brutality, more perverse sex acts, more police attention, and all for less money. The "good" clients purchase sex from the brothels.

Brothels would become socially acceptable, tempting people who wouldn't normally consider buying sex to stray from their relationships and vows. Soon there would be brothels for men, brothels for women, brothels for gays and lesbians.

Men from being robbed/ripped off? Only the men who can afford the brothels and who can participate in a "respectable manner" The sex abusers will still find their victim on the streets.
Men and women from disease? Again, a lower percentage of disease BUT only for those who can afford the brothels.
