The Nanaimo created BC Refederation Party have a website here: www.refedbc.com

    Their Party Statement:

BC Refed is the ballot name of the new centrist party in BC that will give BC voters control over BC politicians, bureaucrats and judges by means of a binding citizens' veto.

Refed's Direct Democracy Act will be created by BC's first citizen-approved constitution. That Constitution of British Columbia will also give citizens control over taxation.

The STV will not make politicians accountable to the citizens. It will be expensive and will not give control of politicians to voters. But FPTP plus BC Refed’s Direct Democracy Act will do that.

The BC Refederation Party will make Direct Democracy a major election issue in 2009, acting as ‘champions of the people’.

BC Refed’s 1,2,3 Plan on www.refedbc.com is the core of the party’s message to BC voters. The BC Refederation Party will accomplish this in its first term in office.

To vote for real change is not a wasted vote. This party is the home for BC’s 1 million people who normally do not vote.

I am awaiting the issuance of the candidates of the BCREFED Party for the 2009 Election. If the past candidates are any indication, they most likely will come in the bottom half in each electoral district they run candidates in. Candidates need to have substance and political savvy behind them. Joe Average without any experience in the political field usually get smashed by those with experience. Candidates with unsavoury pasts are not electable. It is easy to promise the world without viable candidates that stand a chance of winning.

    OK Smokey you're right!

We will all pack up and go home and not even think about running for office how could we be so disillusioned to think in a democratic society that we could ever bring fourth new ideas, and change to the province.

It is unfortunate that we did not have the opportunity to embrace your knowledge and perspective earlier it could have saved us a great deal of time and effort. When we could have concentrated on You know! More of the same. Thank you Smokey for your input! I for one appreciate it.

After reading through the Refed website, I am surprised that they could find anyone to run. I will be even more surprised if anyone votes for them.

No one said change was going to be easy. As for political "savvy" (as was mentioned in a previous post). It is the "savvy" of the past 30 years plus of successive governments that has brought this province to where it is today practically bankrupt and half sold of to foreign, and corporate interest's. The people of BC have far more savvy than most of the elected (I was going to say morons but I retract that and will substitute for) self interested line their own pockets career politicians.

When the "savvy" people of BC get to control their politicians, when they get to say NO! that fast ferry idea isn't going to happen with our money, or NO your not going to dismantle BC under the T.I.L.M.A , SPP, or NAU deal. When that happens under a Refed government then we don't need "savvy" politicians we just need honest, level headed and commited ones.

The system we have now works like this: You go and vote, and at the same time you loose control of the people you voted for. This loss of control lasts for four years until the next election.

Then the people you elect make legislation / statutes once they have made the statute they present it to the people and say there you go there's our new statute which you are bound by. We the people are then stuck with that statute and the consequence that result from it. Which mostly cost's us more money.

Under a Refed government statutes (new legislation) would be presented to the BC public for 100 days (unless it was of an urgent nature) and the people of BC would have the opportunity (if they so choose) to veto the legislation or statute.

Alternatively if there was some legislation, that needed to be effected but was not written the people of BC could "propose it" to the government and if the majority of the voters thought it was a good idea then it would be binding on the government. That IS Direct Democracy and complete people power / control of their government.

The people of BC are not dumb they just have their hands tied because of a system that doesn't work for them. Give them the power and they will "Run their Province" more efficiently than it is being run today, or has been run in the past.

A Question to the people of BC

“Do you support the idea of creating a constitution for the people of British Columbia in which the voters will have the ultimate power over politicians and be able to vote in (or out) any legislation such as Bill C-6?”

"Or do you prefer to have legislation rammed down your throat at you're expense generation after generation???"
