Thread: How can I get to Lucid Lake?

  1. Default How can I get to Lucid Lake?

It's the lake looking out behind Mount Benson. You can't miss it since amidst pure trees It's the only landmark.

I tried to get there once but I wasn't sure if I was going the right way. I followed Harewood RD which turned into Nanaimo Lakes Road and took the first fork to the right. However, it got dark before I get very far.

I just want to make sure I'm heading in the right direction.

If someone wants to help than thankyou.

You are going in the right direction, take a look at goggle maps. I am pretty sure I found the right turn off but had to head home I was quite close I am sure. I took the gated rd that you did and then proceeded up Benson, estimated the miles or km's and there was the turn off to the lake. Once this weather clears I am going to go comfirm this. Tony

There were two ways to get there by car or truck, one up Nanaimo lakes road, the other way past the northwest bay guard shack. And perhaps some other minor known routes via car or truck from Port Alberni.

Have you got google earth? If so, load it up and look.

Keep in mind, a lot of logging road gates have been added in that area over the years.

Lucid lake was a peaceful place. I used to like going there. Boomerang lake was also nice too, but a bit more traveled, and with some camp sites. It's a few miles north of Lucid lake.

Anyone with Google earth able to give me the coordinates of Lucid, I am a little confused as to where it is? I am curious about it as well, just didn't know where to ask... Thanks

I Wanna go there too! I believe it is behind a locked gate though. It's on the way up Benson. Go past the turnoff to the summit & stay left. Last time I was there was probably 1990, before Wolf Mountain mines closed the road.

Actually, it was probably in the early 80's, as Wolf Mountain closed in 85 or 86.Oooops

I am not 100% sure, but I got this from a website.
Perhaps someone local that has been there can confirm this?

Little story about Lucid Lake. Mid 70's a bud & I headed to Lucid. 90% there
& we heard this large banging from the engine of his 70's Ford pickup. I being mechanically inclined, open the hood for a look, found the battery had fallen out of it's battery box & into the fan, major damage happening!!I yell to shut off the engine, he yells no , no, no.Engine get's shut off. OOOOOOOh Nooooo. No start at Lucid Lake. We got turned around, pushed for a while, and ended up
coasting the truck all the way into Harewood, past Wakesiah Ave. Believe me, it is all downhill from the old viewpoint or Wolfmountain, ask me how I know!!!!!!
