So I drove away to visit another. I last visited this particular slope in the summer and was able to pass a boiler, then a sump, following the slope down another 100 feet or so. January 1, 2011 saw the same mine flooded to the boiler/pump again. I sat there staring down into the water amazed at the what was down there and how much of this mine had flooded over the last 4 or 5 months.

I took a few photos - 3 that show you the boiler/pump with the water table right at its foot.

I also wanted to take a few photos of my carbide mining lamps down in a coal mine. To my knowledge, all of my lamps were used in Nanaimo at some point. I don't know which coal miners used them or when they were last put to work underground, but January 1, 2011 was the day when they went back down there and only for photos!

Have a good new year guys!

This is another photo from January 1, 2011. This is one of my favorites from that day. Good times!

Well I'm off work early today! :P Guess that means I double-bill my clients tomorrow to make up for the loss in revenue today....lol

What to do, what to do? The girlfriend isn't off work yet, so I can't kindly remind her that she 'owes' me. Actually, she owes me 6 but who's counting...:P

Here's how I spent my afternoon - I took a piece of coal the size of my head, threw it down in the snow, and lit it on fire! Pretty creative, huh? lol Reminds me of the coal fire at seaman's place sometime early last year. He was planning on paving his driveway and he had to remove a stump in order to do so. He ultimately won the battle by burning it out of the ground with a coal fire that smoldered for over a week. I sat there with him one night after work. He was a little paranoid that his neighbor would complain about the smoke, which was ongoing for days. I remember dropping off this massive piece of coal. Got it from the Timberlands Mine; I seem to remember seaman hauling out a truckload for that burn.

haha, yeah the coal fire....he had an obsession going on there, haha
