If you go to the spot that we found the tailgate, walk over to the creek and follow it downstream a few hundred feet, you will eventually find the pipes that were coming from one of the mine entrances. Although there is a subdivision built on top of the old entrances you will still find the pipes laying in place on the ground. I think they were used to pump water out and pump air in. Be sure to locate them first before you dig, it would be a shame to see them destroyed. I will post photos tomorrow.

The mine is also the headwater for that creek. There is plenty of interesting old iron still in that area.

Ya, well it's funny you say that because I found two things there this past Winter. I'm clueless as to what they are. I'll post one of the objects tonight and one tomorrow.

This first one appears to have been a cover of some kind, possibly hinged at one time and has a small handle on the front. It appears to have a sheared look to it and one would guess that it 'broke' off. Of what? Dunno. You see the look (3rd picture) on my cat's face right now? It's the infamous "time to get off the computer" look. He expects me to cuddle him soon.

This is what it looks like:

    Peter R:

I want to apologize for a post I made towards you, a week or so ago. I was worked-up on some of the drama when I posted it, and I'm not happy with how it came out.

So, for what it's worth, sorry for my judgement on your property situation; and for the various generalizations in my post, which were directed to you.

Thanks for sharing your ideas and work here.

Welcome, daytrip. In response to your photo contributions - the first photo is of either a gold or copper mine in the Nanaimo Lakes area. I've heard the occasional story about this one but haven't been out there yet. But it sure looks like fun! Forum member Seaman was on the hunt for this one a while back but right now he is MIA. Probably fishing. "Mr. Killer" is what they call him in those parts because he does it so well! Gwyneth will probably be able to give you some info.

Your second and third photo are indeed an air shaft. I've been told by a friend of mine that the miners called this shaft 'Old #47", as in Airway #47. The fan that used to be perched on top of this shaft is now resting at the Morden Mine. You will see it inside the gated compound, to the left.

Here is the second object. Again, I have no clue what I am looking at but it is roughly 1' 3" long by 3" wide, weighs about 5 pounds and may be a support of kind.

And I'll press forward a little further and post the Dunsmuir's Old Slope photos from today.

I mentioned pipes laying in place at the site and here they are:
