that sounds like the same hole GR and Dpill went into last year they were saying it was super wide inside I was thinking it was likely the electric train tunnel. I'm going to head out there one day and try to find it to determine with GPS coords if it lines up. If that is the electric train tunnel damn cool find. I think Yogi and his wife were talking about that one too a couple yeas ago, cool pic

We were shocked to learn that there was some recent damage on a couple of his coal cars where it appears someone was trying to pry off artifacts. Bloody awful that he does such nice fine work to find vandals coming onto his property trying to rip chunks from it. It seems he built these things well enough that the attempts were not successful.
That's so typical, Peter. What a shame. The same kind of crap put me in a position to pull the photos from this thread last year. Exactly what is that supposed to mean? You decide that you're a coal mining enthusiast so you go and steal some artifacts and vandalize somebody's coal car??? I'd love to catch somebody. Just once.

Love the photo, I know the spot!

The spray painting done to the head frame means that the mine is no longer "authentic".

A pile of post-earthquake Morden rubble would be authentic. Not sure it would be more interesting or informative than a partly restored or reasonably preserved standing headframe.

Yesterday's pics of just reconstructed dual gauge switch such as operated last in the mid 1890s in Wellington. There were no special seismic upgrades made to the original Dunsmuir design.

Default Welsh Miner's Lantern (Lee Valley)

Here is the lantern that I purchased from Lee Valley Tools the evening that I posted the advertisement. It arrived within a week of placing the order and is a welcome addition to the collection! Not sure if I'll put it to use.

Default Skidding steel from the bush

Skidded a few lengths of well over 100 year old rail from the bush on Tuesday before a logging crew had a chance to mangle and/or haul it to a scrap yard. The loggers are busy trashing another mine site this month. There is a twisted pile of rail where they tore the place up. I managed to get ahead of them to pull out a few pieces before they got too far along. Got out maybe 10% of it - all above ground. There is still plenty of stuff in the woods for those who know where to look and are able to stay ahead of the scrappers and loggers.

Come by today if you want to try it out. We might be going on safari his afternoon.
