Man, those are awesome shots. Good lighting. The first one looks like you are looking down a shaft, perhaps? Lotta water in there!! Maybe the other fellas could shed some light on the first pic?!!
The rest of the photos from that day can be viewed here.
those photos are pretty impressive you must be running a nice camera, it would be cool to see some photos from that other mine you'd probably be able to get some great photos in there too, of the longwall face, I couldn't light it up enough to get the photo I wanted but you'd probably be able too, nice work guys!
BigMac that first photo is the entrance of that slope that's what you climb into and that's what you climb out of when it's time to leave.
Thanks for posting your article Shawn. I'm glad to see you made it out there. Some great photos! Once again, sorry to hear about your camera. The directions that I gave you to that second mine should see both you and Neil gain access this time. Good luck!!
Thanks again!

This is a little off of the beaten trail, it has nothing to do with Nanaimo's coal mining but I found it interesting and thought you'd like to see it.
This is a photo of a 1 KM long abandoned railway tunnel in the bush in Castlegar. Photo was taken by Colin Anderson.
Bring your miners helmet and some beer and I'll meet you inside!
pretty cool tunnel. Found a sniffer on ebay for $200 RKI Eagle # 65-01-XXRK. seems like a pretty good deal, kind of looking for a gas sensor.

Nice dude nice. Yeah, I'll probably pick one up closer to summer. I'll bet the water level in that one mine will be way down there by then. Every time I've been in there, the water level has dropped by 10 to 15 feet. Come summer I wouldn't be suprised if you could walk down another couple hundred feet! A Gas sensor is a must.
Some beater coal carts.
