well as you know after you've seen something it's pretty hard to get a picture that shows what it's actually like, you've just got to see it for yourself, I didn't have my flash up there so probably didn't get the A pictures, probably go back in there next week, will be the perfect chance to use the gas sensor haha, but seriously that pick axe is a real gem, you'll always remember the adrenaline you got when you found it, holy $___ I can't believe I just found that! and you'll have that thing forever

I grabbed the pick axe, took it out and went back in for some coal. I bonked my head about 8 or 9 times, thought I was gonna bring the place down in the process.

I'm off tomorrow, i'm thinking about that air vent, might mission it and give you the proper directions,

and the stories that axe would tell, about working the mine, belonging to a miner and being abandoned down there for 70 years until you come along... that thing drove out of there in a new world, time warp, kind of like encino man haha

haha yeah they used to stamp numbers on the top so you could tell who it belonged to, so many of the same model but no such luck now. I wonder whose it was?

OK guys, no luck with the vent shaft today, I don't advise attempting the hike from the pump station off of Nanaimo River Road either. Garry told me you can access it from there, and I know he's telling the truth, but you'll be hiking for half a day on foot. He said "you have to go left", and he's right, but you'll be out there forever....

I started there this morning, the pump station is a concrete slab with blue candy cane shaped pipes sticking out of the top. There are two gates, one gravel road is active, one is not. I went with the inactive route, followed the pipeline trail and ended up at concrete foundations that I thought were capped ventilation shafts. They were not, they had something to do with the pipeline. I continued and ended up in Arbutus Heights, at the end of Myles Lake Road. Obviously not the right way. Well DUH!

Here are 2 photos of the cement foundations I found.
