When you're talking about the Scout hut, are you talking about the one that faces towards Comox downtown, across from the HoJo Hotel?
The scout hut mentioned by the Christian School was actually the North Vancouver Island Scout Office. I doubt it was an actual scout hut for regular cub or scout meetings.

Smokeys right they'd just sell things in there it was the scout store they'd sell the badges etc, just drove by it yesterday it's a church now haha how special. So I went by a ccouple slack piles today but the quality wasn't high enough, I needed the high grade coal the stuff that's been sitting around on the surface is not high enough quality for my needs, So I went right to the coal seam and mined my own high grade coal, I mined for about two hours and it was hard work, I got quite a bit of coal about 7-8 5 gallon buckets full of high grade coal. So there was coal coming out of nanaimo today I know because I was there and I can not believe how good it's burning seriously, photos tommorrow I was going to photo document this whole thing but I got the camera in there trying to photograph this little bat and no battery, so anyways GR74 beers around the fire tommorrow night? the coal burniing aroma is incredible i'm smoking out my whole neighboorhood right now. can't believe how good it's working the coal burns forever, I was washing the coal dust down with a buddy and the coal I lit at 6 had barely even burnt it just burns forever, but i did get the high grade just cause may as well,

Thats pretty cool you mined your own coal, that hasn't been done around here in a while. Yeah when the carbon burns off, the hot coals just glow and continue to shed layers of ash until they're completely gone. But the smoke is black at first, eh? I found it to be an oily smell!

I was pleased to immediately find some old ruins cement structure that had been destroyed I then found an interesting hole in the ground that water had eroded away and buried I could see a cement wall with a hole going under ground, perhaps the old jingle pot mine slope portal, but I have my doubts about that since the shaft is running the other direction however it is mystifying? and truly peaked my curiosity and imagination, found these huge slack piles within a couple minutes of where I used to play as a kid, didn't even know they were there if only I had. So getting back to me being bored I have a plan, I'm going to go collect some huge coal chunks this afternoon, I have a big stump from a tree I cut down a few weeks ago I've been wrestilng this thing out of the ground and it's winning so my plan is to burn it out with coal as my fuel source, I was thinking about using brickets. but why would I do that when getting a few buckets of coal would be alot funner and I just happen to know a few spots where there is plenty of coal slack

Did you go behind the bailey studio? I have looked around in there a few times and found the slack piles and of course garbage

I went in there the other day I think those two big holes in the ground over by the houses off rosstown are the old shaft sites they have been filled,

I was out metal detecting yesterday behind the rotary track by NDSS and dug a spike from the narrow gauge track going to the Wakesiah mine.

I lived for 5 yrs in an old house on Buck Rd, next to Holland Rd and being a gardener was forever digging up hunks of coal and in the bed next to the old garage pieces of coal were constantly coming to the surface. I VAGUELY recall being told it was originally a loading area...the farmers field you speak of is right near by.

    Default Watzthis?

Since joinging this form a couple of days ago I've become addicted Any ideas what this could be. It was found in the field behind the house we rented on Buck Rd and am now wondering if it might have something to do with the coal railcars. An uncle of mine yrs ago suggested it was the undercarriage of a handsome cab. A couple of other pics have become attached too....so any ideas what the strange cultivator/mower was used for. Thanks for any ideas.
