I think the coolest sign in that entire photo is just to the left of the Copp Shoes sign - the big teapot --- Overwaitea... 3 years before Jim Pattison bought the chain and 50 years after the first Overwaitea opened in New Westminster.

From a family album:
The date: August 1964.
The setting:
- The front-door of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Harewood, which is still there today. Corner of Harewood Rd., 4th Street, and Shepherd Ave.
The view:
- looking to the background, which is the corner of 4th-and-Bruce as it was in the 1960's. That would be a service-station back there.
No "Fun Center" yet.
The car:
- my Uncle's cool car
The people:
- My mom, grandfather, and her brides-maid.
Great photo Flugel, thanks for posting it.
Please post more old Harewood shots if you have them.
I agree with Harewoodian. Please keep these old pictures coming. I'd really enjoy that.![]()
You can see the fire station's "tower" or whatever (for drying the hoses?) in the background!
So, the building at right -- is that "Lite-On Computers" now, or is that building now gone?
Yes I believe that is the Liteon Computer house. The gas station is the old Calverley Gas Station, again I believe?!! And the car is a very well taken care of 1959 Chevy Impala. I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong? Excellent photo as usuall Flugel!! Trying to remember the name of the station on 5th and Bruce, we talked about it here before, slips my mind though? Stan , where are you?!!! Saw him all loaded down with metal yesterday!!
5th and Bruce was Harewood Texaco, run by Tom Kulai. My father had his car serviced there religiously.
Does anybody know of any photos taken of Westwood Lake when it was originally a farm owned by William Joseph Westwood "pre" 1872 time of his death? I am curious how it looked.
