A few years ago, a frend of mine, wanting to buy a handgun, applied to purchase one. A criminal record showed up on him that went on for more than three pages. The RCMP were nice enough to show it to him. (These days I suppose the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act would prevent that.) There
was another person with exactly the same name, but that man lived on the prairies.
My friend had only ever been out of British Columbia once. Born in Nanaimo, educated here and in Vancouver, taught at Malaspina College/VIU. His only journey was for VIU, when he was sent with a couple of colleagues to teach for a while in northern China.
It took quite a while for it to get sorted out. The fact that he was fairly well-known in Nanaimo probably helped. But I suppose these days it would be fixed faster. He was a little shocked that, among other things, he had once held up a bank in some place like Wetaskawin.
Congratulations on your volunteering! You're helping the kids, and you're certainly helping yourself make your first steps into teaching. Way to go!
