Thread: Increase in spam

  1. #1

    Default Increase in spam

Has anyone noticed this in the last few days? I've gone from getting what my ISP has wrongly read as spam and kicked into my "Junk Mail" folder that actually was from companies I deal with, like Amazon, to getting a lot. Well, in the recent past, I might have got what Telus classified as junk mail once a day from companies whose names I recognize. Now I'm getting eight to ten a day from companies whose names I don't recognize and have never dealt with. No, I haven't done any fiddling around with my filters. It just happened.

Thanks. I will. I'm really curious about why and how this suddenly began to happen a few days ago when I know I haven't done any tinkering around with my computer. None of this stuff ever used to appear.

That's my account, too. I've never bothered with a hotmail account, or any other. I just use my Telus e-mail account. What the heck has happened?

I've pretty much given up on ISP email accounts. I used gmail now mostly. I love it. And they catch pretty much all the spam.

There are so many programs, programs and more programs to download and clean up your computer. I think overall they can clog up your machine and make it run slower. At least that is what is happening to mine. Maybe I need to get a new Windows box.

Up until about a week ago, Telus was really good at filtering spam. Nothing used to get through that wasn't from a company that I dealt with, like Amazon, and Telus would even kick that into "Junk Mail." And now all hell's broken loose. I'm getting spam from companies and "people" ("people"? I don't think so--probably some Nigerian wanting help to get a kazillion dollars out of the country. haha) that I've never heard of, never had any contact with. I don't know what happened. But I'm happy (or at least sharing the misery) to hear that someone else who uses Telus is having the same problem.

Does the majority of the spam state in the topic line *TELUS detected Spam*?

I get about 125+ of those each and every day

My God! And I think I've got it tough with eight to ten a day! Well, that could be a 100% increase from before, when I might get one a day. Yes, they all carry the notation "Telus detected spam." I get the same notation with things like blast mailings from Amazon, but I don't object to them. Seems like Telus has a counter on incoming e-mails that include my address among many others, and at a certain point spam alarms go off. I've had it happen with a joke e-mail that a friend sent to many, many others. Telus kicked it into "Junk Mail."
