    Default Elementary Schools in Nanaimo

    Hi,

We are moving to Nanaimo this Summer and I am currently looking for a school for my five year old son. We are considering renting a house in the Jinglepot neighborhood (although that is not final yet) so what would be a good school in that area? Or are there other areas I need to consider in order to find a good school.

I am also considering the Aspengrove private school. Any opinions on that one? How does it compare to public schools in Nanaimo?

Since we are moving from overseas and I have never been to Nanaimo before, I am not sure where to start looking, so any information about this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.

Jingle Pot area encompasses a large area so it is difficult to pinpoint which school would be closer. In the area of Jingle Pot and Holland there is a Nanaimo Christian School. Aspengrove (private school) is highly recommended by those whose children that have attended it. For elementary schools, there is one on East Wellington and Stobbart(Mountain View Elementary - 2480 East Wellington Road, Nanaimo V9R 5K3 - 250-753-2831; fax: 250-741-8320, Principal Bob Aspen), and the other closest schools would be Quarterway (French immersion) and Fairwiew School. There is also Coal Tyee School for some areas (Coal Tyee Elementary - 2280 Sun Valley Dr., Nanaimo V9T 5X5 - 250-729-0450; fax: 250-729-0460, Principal Don Andersen,)

Thanks for the info. The house we are considering is on College Drive. Do you have any idea about how good these schools are? Also, are there any other neighborhoods that might be better in terms of schools?

How good are the schools? How good is your child? While the locations of some schools have been known to result in a higher grade average, statistics also show that the expectation and respect that children have towards their parents and teachers usually result in a higher grade. So, ask not how good are the schools, but how good are the kids?

All of our schools feature the same programs and are all governed by the same school district. So it doesn't matter which school a child attends. I attended a variety of schools in the now southern portion of Nanaimo and found the schools I attended in the south end were of very high quality in respect to the staff and curriculum.

Hi dsf ...... myself & family also moved here from overseas (UK) a couple of years ago ..... it would be worth having a look at www.sd68.bc.ca as the website will show the catchment areas for each school ....... my kids were both teenagers when we came so I didn't have to worry about elementary school although I have worked in quite a few
    Lifes tough......................get a helmet!!!!!!!
