Asteras Greek Taverna in the Old City

I'm not sure how long they have been there, but tonight my hunny and I enjoyed a full course meal there. From the Greek wine to the eck mek for dessert everything was very tasty and enjoyable. The atmosphere was fresh and inviting, the service was great and the desert was on the house for a birthday

I just wanted to recommend it whole-heartedly

The food there is fantastic and the service is wonderful. I would not hesitate bringing out of town guests there.

This place is likely the best ethnic food I have tasted in Nanaimo....

Anyone who has read some of my "reviews" knows I am a demanding customer, so when I say Asteras if the best restaurant in the city on every level, you will perhaps understand how much I think of the place, the owners (Peter and his wife Nicole) and, most importantly, the food. Absolutely world-class Greek cuisine served in a fantastic atmosphere (the beautiful old house that used to be the location of the Phoenician Restaurant in the old quarter). This place stacks up against any restaurant in Vancouver or elsewhere and I would highly recommend it. Opa!

..well to add to my last post....We've arrived in Nanaimo and we went to Asteras last night!....It was wonderful on all counts! Great food, large portions, great service even though it was busy, I'm very impressed with the wine prices!...the roast Lamb was so tender you didn't need a knife to cut it.....With some of the fine and reasonably priced restaurants in this city it hardly pays to cook at home!

We have been to Asteras a few times and it is wonderful. Calamari is soo tender it is easily some of the nicest we've had .. I've cleaned and cooked a few hundred over the years and these were great .. the lamb is also a must try, great service as well

Hi, I've noticed that Asteras has been getting pretty good reviews.
I honestly never heard about this restaurant.
Has anybody gone there recently?
What is the best thing to get there?
I'm thinking about going there with my family to try it.

we ate there a couple weeks ago and it was a real treat, we had the appy platter and the calamari is the best I've ever had they had these great little meatballs on there i could go for a couple right now, also had the mousakka and it was very fresh probably the best I've ever had, so go enjoy, make areservation if your going on a weekend, when we were there it was packed.
