I've been living in Nanaimo for about 8 months now, and Asteras was one of the first "favorite" places we've tried and still is one of our regular faves.....We still haven't tried every place in town but to our credit...we haven't found the need to go to any of the "chain" restaurants that we used to go to in our old city...(there are enough good independent restaurants here to support)

Asteras is my favourite place in town at this time. I've been there a few times in the last year or so.
I recommend the moussaka too, and the calamari - just get the meal for two and you're smiling.

Huge portions and very reasonable prices....usually around $15 - mid- $20's...includes greek salad rice & potatoes & veggies w/hummos and tiziki...
best bargain is the reasonably priced house wine (Boutari) at $22.....not only that, but I was pleasantly surprised with a liter bottle instead of the usual 750ml!

Great example of how when food is high quality (good ingredients, well-prepared) and an owner is friendly and generous it increases business.

    That place is packed!

Yes , Yes, Yes - totally agree with you wino- we went there last night and it was fabulous - as usual. Totally packed house for the 2 hours we were there. Wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion or just a wonderful dinner out. Peter is great as is the staff.

I agree. It is quite delicious here! And the staff is all very charming. The beautiful house it is in was actually lived in by my great aunt!
