I had lunch at Asteras in May and noticed that I paid $3.00, (before tax), for one ordinary Red Rose tea bag that was in the teapot! And that’s the price charged, after they have paid wholesale price for the tea. I find it interesting that most people don’t mind paying ridiculous prices for restaurant food, yet they protest, when it comes to paying more tax on it.

Yes, the cost of a cup of coffee or a tea seems pretty outrageous...considering, the known costs of producing these things...

This has been and will continue to be our restaurant of choice in Nanaimo. People complaining about paying three dollars for a cup of tea or coffee amaze me. This restaurant invariably gives diners a free after dinner drink or dessert. A litre of decent Greek plonk is only $22.00. The food is exceptional and the service is, by far, the best in the city. Every time we go, the restaurant is packed for good reasons. Go to MacDonalds if you want a two dollar coffee.

I was there briefly for a quick lunch meeting and the service was spectacular and the food and food portions were excellent! I think I'll go for a visit this Saturday and do a dinner review

P.S the photos of the food in this thread are amazing!

They are great but expensive. Good for a special occasion or date.

Expensive?...Try it for lunch...you get a proper sit down meal in nice surroundings with a good portion and even cloth napkins for what you'd pay in a food court!....I think they've got very reasonable prices especially for lunch.

Yes, I used to think that Asteras was expensive but honestly, the service, the food, and the portions are just so excellent that the prices become reasonable.
I just had a bad experience going to a local Indian restaurant in Nanaimo with a large group. The food there was really overpriced and plus service was horrible.
After an experience like that, it just makes me appreciate Asteras even more.

lmbery: Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't know they had lunch specials. (I'm a student, so EVERYTHING seems expensive )
