    Default Unidentified falls..

Found this nifty little set of falls today, and snapped a few pics. Water was nice, and it was quite interesting.

It's up near the end of Nanaimo river road, behind a dam/hydro station of some sort. It was all behind some sort of graffiti covered tunnel.. Like that helps. Lol.

    Anyways.

    Thanks!

Any chance you were out geo-caching when you found the falls?

They look very familiar and your description is very accurate.

Nope, I wasn't doing any geocaching. I used to be an avid cacher, but fell out of practice back when I lived in Edmonton.. I don't think I have the patience to re-learn everything at the moment. Lol

    Default Cool photo....

    Novus,

    Ah, i do love a waterfall photo .... : )

(not to let out any secrets, but hmmm...half a sec, f16?

Is this the waterfall that is located on the Chase River just above Colliery Dam park and below the #1 Resovoir? I've seen it marked on maps and if it's the one, I'm a gonna be up there with the tripod, camera, and polarizer tommorrow : )

    Cheers,
    Al

Actually, it was 1 second, f22, at 29mm on L glass, no filters. It was pretty overcast, so the light was really even, and the colors popped.

I did a couple nice ones in Infra red, and HDR too. Those falls really are beautiful.

Fellow shutterbug? We should chat sometime.

It was kinda funny.. my girlfrind got her butt kicked on the falls today - by a frog. Lol.

She was climbing out to the middle of the falls, so I could get a shot of her sitting on the rocks amidst the falls.. And a frog jumped accross her hand. She screamed, recoiled, lost her footing, and down she went with a skid and a splash.

I tried REALLY hard not to laugh, but was entirely unsuccessful. lol

    Novus,

As a photographer, you're going to enjoy this forum, there's a lot of photog types that drop by here often...and there is a very active photo club here in this burg, and they have a website:
    http://harbourcityphoto.com/

I checked out the falls today, they are really something, and so close to my regular walk that it's almost embarassing that a fourth generation Nanaimoite found out about them from a newcomer to the city posting on the forum...but maybe that's what makes this forum so great (Thank you, Mr. Rat) I decided to leave the Nikons home today as it's a pretty bright day and knew there'd be uneven lighting with lots of hotspots...so I took my cheapie point and shooter and optex pocket pod and snapped a couple...nothing very spectacular, but I will be back there when it's overcast...I'd imagine since it's the outflow from the resovoir there's a pretty much even flow year round?

Sounds like you got some pretty nice gear..."L"uxury lenses are tack sharp optics, most have fluorite in their composition and are strongly corrected for chromic aberration...

It made for a nice morning walk, even stopped for a dip with the wundermutt in Morrell lake...surprisingly warm too : )

    Cheers,
    Al

Wow, amazing pictures of the falls!

The flow does seem to drop off later in the summer. This pic was taken in late August and I noticed the falls were down to barely a trickle in Smokey's photo.

And yes, I found them while geocaching.
